not necessarily. I completely expect the initial 30-60 days to be in that transitional/probationary timeframe (could also mean I'm not among the `best programmers`). But to each his own.

Well, there is a probationary period here (US) too but it doesn't make much sense employing 20 developers just to figure out which one you want to join full time.

I was going to add that. It's one thing where a developer gets asked, "Well, if you could rearchitect (or create) our application, what would you do?" and then discuss what frameworks, where to focus on caching and optimizati

A voice of reason. I've had too much personal experience with bad companies and bad interviewing processes for my own good. I think that #3 is spot on. Most companies AREN'T that special snowflake. Just like I would not tolerate a

So here's MY opinion on the problem: 1. I totally agree with that. Yeah, watch someone code. Do a short hackathon. But not a day's worth. Seriously. 2. Using the actual codebase is fine but the interview starts to stink when the i

I just wanted to know how this works. Our company uses a pretty neat setup where we run different different branches under a wildcard domain on a single machine. Basically, we run a *.staging.domain.com; however, databases are always tied t

I think this is one of the best points. The environment is different. Why are "apps" companies taking off? Because Google, Microsoft, and Apple are actively selling billions of phones to customers. These customers, in turn, fuel t

That and the fact that Pinterest is actually exploring how to gain revenue. They've used Skimlinks ( http://skimlinks.com/ ) before to affiliate the content posted on their site. Probably the best idea out there.

Ah, awesome. I've been an affiliate for a while, made a small amount of cash that allows me to run my site. I sincerely thank you and am currently opening up a private git repo to start developing for the bounties.

exactly. you may spend 20 hours developing a wordpress theme, averaging at $10/hour but guess what? That theme may sell at $20/pop and you get, what? like $12 from each sale? Works out well. Others do it, and they did it before th

I use a ton of twitter lists! I'm probably the only one that does this. If I get REALLY bored, I go through the actual feed. When I check the list, I check the entire timeline. If I check the feed itself, i don't care.

I mean, houston is the same way. I used to live 30-45 mins away and I got a $1200 3br nice house in a nice neighborhood. I live in Midtown now and a 1br is $1400+. But off at the medical center you can find places that are around $900 for 1
