I have helped a computerphobe (hates computers and Internet, clueless, but must use them) with Dropbox. She gets that her folders on various computers around town are synchronized. I had a very difficult time explaining to her that her sa

Good point. It might be more useful to have access to deserts and other region without much rain or clouds. California has both.

Thanks for the article, I've queued it. As for the key to passwords: 1. I lose my domain. 2. Email continues to trickle in to the domain thief, addressed to me. 3. Thief gleans various web sites and businesses that I have a relationship wit

Simply stating, in law, that the Bill of Rights applies to the Internet would suffice (I would hope). As for the right to use the Internet, that would invalidate Three Strikes laws. So expect major watering down if this ever makes it to a f

I think approximate linear distance is closer to a practical measurement than crinkly measurements. Consider a semi-circular bay. You may have more access (water/land interface) points, but all the pipes have to go out "far enough" to the s

I already own a domain based on my name. I have a low grade fear of someone taking the domain, either through underhanded means, or by bullying through legal means. I've had my domain more than a decade. There is at least one online busines

If you assume more than enough energy, likely from advanced solar (a big assumption, but we haven't been to the future yet), then pumping water can serve as energy storage in addition to more direct use of water.

One solution is to not print, except when absolutely necessary for legal/financial events. Go to UPS or Staples to do the few printings per year that you absolutely must do. My printer hasn't printed for at least a year. The scanner still w

I saw nothing useful in that video. It seemed to be a Raspberry Pi powered by car voltage, and a trick display. Basically a computer that can be used in the car, but I already have one in my pocket. Some text explaining why this is useful,

Calling it fairy tales is never, ever going to get that side of the argument to converse in any manner better than defense. Engagement would be better. Some very, very smart people believe exactly the way you wish they wouldn't.

I think with today's machine power we're reaching the crossing point where this is becoming a practical preference. Yet I still run cygwin at work. Partly I think it's because we still use XP, and I don't get to throw as much memory and vid

I'm not raising the cygwin devs beyond criticism. I don't even think they themselves do this, at least not in the way that you describe gnome (which is a point well taken). I think that this small handful of smart developers are more influe

The cygwin devs are to be thanked. If cygwin wasn't as useful as it is, no one would care about apg-cyg and similar. That said, I'm not capable of fixing or adding anything into cygwin, so I never ask them for anything.
