Can confirm. My childhood in Colorado taught me nothing of rip currents. A few weeks on the east coast of Australia was quite the eye-opener.

Where did you learn about this "staff engineer" track? I have worked at two Fortune 500 tech firms. They had separate career tracks where one was people management focused and the other nominally technical. At both firms the techn

I don’t have any beginner-specific material for optimizing Assembly. But after skimming a few of Agner’s manuals, I think “beginners” means “new to programming” or “new to computer science”. Not the optimization aspect. If your level of pro

Linked in the article is Agner Fog's website: https://www.agner.org/optimize/ . Which appears to have up-to-date knowledge and 2001's web aesthetic (just the way it should be).

Does anyone know the protocol used for wireless communications between Cybiko devices? It sounds fairly sophisticated given the time period in which these devices were released.

Normal mode in vim does not have the meaning normal people associate with a normal text editor.

Config files on an embedded device got me into using vim 10+ years ago. This seems to be a common use case. Eg, “I use vim for short term editing on remote machines but VS Code for any serious editing.” This is not me though. I love me a pl

I purchased a $100 Insignia TV off Amazon and a stand for my trainer bike setup. Cycling workouts are far less tedious with YouTube or Netflix in front of you.

I have noticed this about hummingbirds as well. We have a feeder on our deck and if you are out there when they are feeding expect to receive an inspection. I like to think the thought in their brain is “are you a flower?” I’ve also had a h

Interesting idea but how does C++ guarantee contiguous memory for a vector? I just don’t see how a data structure with an arbitrary, dynamic size can also reside in a contiguous range of address space.
