This is usually a clear sign of the lack of a good engineering culture. I pity the companies where engineers are second-class citizens.

Isn't there any better alternative to sliders, though? I never use them, as I usually know exactly how much I'm willing to spend, and will probably not feel comfortable going out of my bounds anyway.

Two questions, if I may: What are HipChat's advantages over other chat services? What's a good, mainstream-ish, secure/encrypted chat service?

This. Moreover, is adding even more JavaScript really necessary? How about just make things simple, fast, and easy to read? As an user I'll always choose speed and good typography over clever transitions and smart menus.

That's interesting, I'm actually the other way around. I see games as a work of art instead of a pastime, so I enjoy watching people play rather than doing it myself. It feels like I'm saving time this way. :) It might have s

Obviously, pewdiepie isn't the epitome of intellectual achievement, but he's not _that_ bad either. I like him because (i) he's Swedish and about my age and (ii) his insane success is a very interesting and relatively new phe

I'm not much into frontend development, but AFAIU Font Awesome is a bunch of assets packed as a font [0]. Why is this is a good idea? Is it faster, smaller, more convenient, something else? 0: http://stackoverflow.com/a

I'm not a privacy freak, but I still have Search and Youtube history turned off. Why? Because the superficial kind of machine learning done by everyone today (Google included) yields crap results. Example: I'm subscribed to pewdie

The boarding pass redesign reminded me of this (and my snarky side is wondering whether they just stole some of the ideas): http://petesmart.co.uk/rethink-the-airline-boarding-pass/

Following your brilliant thoughts on criticism in general, I propose that we ban all tech reviews, literary critics, and all sorts of critical thinking, with the exception, of course, of people who have created flawless pieces of work. Roge

I didn't use GAE that much, I only know that whenever I needed to try something for free, Heroku's plugin architecture comes in handy, since most addons have free tiers. They even support neo4j, an amazing graph database I just st

This. The fact that most people seem this ignorant to practical law issues is a major part of why the overall situation (patents, Hollywood, etc) is as shitty as it is, methinks. Uneducated flocks are easier to steer.

For static websites, Github Pages is free, nearlyfreespeech is very cheap. For full-blown web apps, didn't you hear the guy? GAE has a pretty generous free tier to test out stuff. So does Heroku, and it's way more user friendly. I

I agree that in general the idea is pretty stupid, but what about if we add a couple of layers of master nodes? As Google says, by trading off a bit of decentralisation you can gain a lot of performance (see gfs, etc).
