I'm so glad she wrote this, and that she named names! As a female founder (not black though), we went through a similarly congnitively dissonant process. A-List investors who would publicly talk about supporting female founders would b

I agree with this problematic way of focusing on only a particular kind of artist. It is also my beef with the word 'creator' as used online, which is, designers and graphic artists with a spattering of Youtubers.

I'm a little unclear if they launched but didn't see engagement or traction or if the projections didn't match the cost to develop it. Anyone else has a clearer idea? I'm also curious if this was Patreon + Discovery or a

I don't know if I'd recommend them. We had a really hard time trying to switch to them. We were with Seed which closed down and they offered a "seamless" migration to Azlo. We kept getting automated emails from them abou

I was under the impression that more and more founders (and even investors) are speaking out against the idea of legal fees paid by the founders. Is that only at the seed stage and acceptable at Series A?

I feel like this is some dystopian alternate reality post. It took 4 years to release a hover popup! Take that in for a second. And the post seems extremely proud, and self-congratulatory about it. From the post: > Our initial version w

I guess another question I have is how does the React or the Redux team see this playing with Redux. Dispatch returns promises but then the cache is the redux store itself - so would the fetcher read from the store possibly?

This is pretty amazing, kudos to the React team! Just hope that SSR isn't an afterthought with this feature. That is probably been my only little grouse with the React team that SSR compatibility is always a 'Not sure, someone sho

I said this in another comment but it seems like these cases are assuming a long time passing between the SAFE and the priced round. Not sure if DelaneyM and pmcaffey are referring to that. If SAFE is a way to start what would be a priced r

It seems like in cases where the companies aren't able to raise a round, they are probably not going to work out. At that stage, the point seems moot given the SV mantra of this being a 'a game of outliers'. Also, if there is

This could get tricky. I imagine, at some point when you feel the round is closing, you'd want to set some terms/valuation and ensure that the biggest investor (or most/all of the investors) feel good about that.

It seems like a hidden element that we aren't talking about which really might affect everyone's reference points is the time duration between SAFE and priced rounds. For a lot of people, I see the difference being the start of th

I'm unclear on how the cap would be a starting point? To DelaneyM & pcmaffey's point, it then becomes a proxy for price, so you've effectively set a valuation. Would it be more appealing if you the round was closed in the

This makes a lot of sense, and is also my preferred route. Have you had any feedback or pushback on this route yet? I am also curious how the reactions differ from Angels to MicroVCs to Seed Funds.

Do you foresee YC Safe equivalent of Series A docs? One that standardizes the terms, and reduces the time/price in the process?

Also, healthcare isn't truly a free market since there are no free agent buyers. So, you'd have to define that phrase 'truly free market health care'.

If you are not brought up in the tradition of SV startups, it is far harder than one can imagine. I've worked here and still get confused with the variation in terminology, requirements and preferences. I've a lot of empathy for a

I see. So, the choice is essentially : A: <Capital> from which the startup can pay legal fees OR B: <Capital> + <Legal Fees> where the Capital is probably less as VC firm is probably accounting for Legal fees separately. E

It really seems short-sighted, since the focus should be on making sure companies have enough runway, comfortable and focused on product. For an early stage startup, $25K- $60K can be an extra part-time/full-time (depending on location

So, for founders raising let's say, a seed round (with a Series A 18 months down the line), is the recommendation still raise on SAFE (with some cap and/or discount), and then price it at A? It would be useful for the founder comm
