Not sure what to make of Wilson's post, but I can say that the Hedera news is much ado about nothing. Hedera raised $100M from investors in 2018. They are now down to $30M in the bank and the market value of their HBAR token continues

Couldn't one tell a bit of a different story? Namely, that there is a difference between the pure software industry and the utilization of software in old and entirely new industries that have yet been built. In this story, it's t

I'll bite. The argument is that what is really meant when "[insert particular group] lives matter" is stated, is something like "we all agree [insert groups in general] lives matter, but [insert particular group] lives d

I've not infrequently found nihilism intellectually attractive. Usually, something like political nihilism. One problem that I think has long been overlooked is the foundation of human rights. Only in the past roughly five years has th

It's also semi-unnerving for what it portends regarding the possibility of deep rot in our political economy. Yes, we've seen treatments like this before. Yes, the author is probably missing the mark a bit (or missing it even more

I agree that that explains some of the difference. Not sure it means that he isn't the most impressive. I'd also add that in his stints at different firms pre-Amazon he was quite clearly an outlier among high-achievers.

This. Say what you will about Bezos, but he seems to be the most impressive tech founder out of any of FANG and any of the large unicorns founded after Facebook. Such an impressive list of deft moves that he made (in a range of different ar

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Amazon was strongly cash flow positive as of 2002. Moreover, their operations were throwing off cash the year they went public (1997). Everyone should be considering this a bit more because it says somethin

> If by value you mean political value, yes. If by value you mean return to the company for the compensation, that has nothing to do with anything. I experienced this reality check in grad school when I summered as an associate project m

I used to be a fairly strong supporter of our military. Not blanket support (since there are always exceptions to anything), and I wasn't super enthusiastic/patriotic like some are, but in general I had a pretty positive view. My

I am aware of the highly controversial views on homosexuality of the author (Scruton), but am unaware of anything controversial about race. Regardless, a person can say many deeply true things across a number of domains, yet be quite wrong

It really is quite incredible. I took a tax law class in grad school, taught by an expert's expert. The class is taught in such a way that you end up with a good feel for the conceptual topology of tax law. I've done my own taxes

I bet with more exposure it would become more intuitive. I also think there is simply an immense benefit in the type of epistemological mindset it inculcates, regardless of how fast or adept you are at the mechanics.
