I'm at a startup, not FAANG, but it's pretty much the same for me, minus the rusty part. It's fine IMO. Work is about producing value for your employer, so do whatever it takes to do that. Usually it's about meetings,

I moved to the middle of nowhere and did not take a paycut. Now I work remotely and I'm saving so much money that I might even take a year off after this job expires. It still sucks and I hate working, but it's the least bad path

Serious question: how does a guy like this actually get into a business like this? If I walked into YC suggesting to build dorms, I'm sure I'd be laughed out. What's the differentiator for Jon? The only distinction I can

IMO the biggest threat to 1Password is Yubico. Webauthn already works, all that's missing is the adoption. In the not-so-distant future, the idea of password management will be laughable.

It's always had politics. It just used to be run by communists, anarchists, and libertarians. Then money got involved, and now it's run by social justice warriors.

You're right, but you missed the biggest part of the problem. The "nothing at all controversial" part changes, often without warning. Your history, however, is immutable. I think the only way to fix it is for everyone to be

The gains of investment can offset the losses from inflation, yeah, but I'd also be drawing down. The problem is that I might live longer than 25 years and I might not be able to work by that point. I checked my math again with https

That's also exactly my experience. Thankfully (maybe?) society recognizes that I'm too mentally deficient to do it on my own, so they pump me full of amphetamines so that I can be a good boy at and get my work done. It would be a

I think you're wrong. I make a typical SF software engineer salary and I live in a low cost of living area. The reality is that I still need about $3M to permanently stop working. Healthcare is expensive and the dollars that I'm

I just cannot understand how so many people would find meth enjoyable. It's clearly an epidemic, but why ? I take regular old amphetamines for productivity (technically ADHD), and they're really effective, but not what I would c

I love free software, and I hate non-free software. Writing free software doesn't pay very well, on account of it being free. Maybe I should work for FSF or Mozilla, but I'd really like to make enough in industry to be comfortable

This doesn't work for me. 1. What do I love? Software! 2. What am I good at? Software! 3. What can I be paid for now — or something that could transform into my future hustle? Software! 4. What does the world need? Software! I abso

I would be very surprised if that were true. Apple needs to be able to help users reset passwords and recover data. And it would be a complicated key management situation when adding or removing devices.
