The most shocking thing to me from this article was that Big Bird is actually male. I always saw her as an older sister character. It could have something to do with the fact that "bird" is feminine in my language. That would also

Kind of like saying it's awful how people paint Hitler and Nazism in general in such a dehumanizing evil light, when they rebuilt a war-torn Germany into a well-oiled prosperous country (To be fair, they genocided some minorities¹. But

Hitler's only two failings were genocide on an ethnic group and going on a land war against Russia in winter. If the new one doesn't try to kill off European citizens and doesn't declare war on Russia, I fail to see the probl

In true (original) Matrix fashion, you should make it a matrix inside of a matrix, where in the inner matrix, they're simply simulations, but in the outer matrix, half their cpu time is taken up to compute the inner matrix.

What if you rent a room with a whiteboard somewhere and put in telepresence robots for everyone? You'll save on food and... Actually, a virtual reality persistent world would be more economical. Just buy Second Life licenses.

Yes, exactly. The modern world of intellectual "property" (and there aren't quotes scary enough to put around the word) is fucking insane and kind of sad.

No single man should wield so much power. That's part of the foundation of modern democracy -- we don't want any single person having unchecked power to do as he or she wants. Krämer's solution is the state taking the place

12bit will be pretty awful to work with though. That will mean 36 bits per pixel, which doesn't fit into a whole number of 8-bit-bytes. Best to just bite the bullet and go 16bit for internal representation.

Let me just add Numba to the list. It compiles numpy-using code to native via llvm and can remove temporary arrays in the process. I tried a very simple toy program the other day and while I had to write some things slightly un-pythonically
