I mean, it's a bug. Happens to everyone. Criticize them for the things they should be but don't make a case out of everything.

This would all be fine if it were opt-in but all these companies who insist on excessive reliance on algorithms just end up making their service worse.

I'm always so leery of "random extension x". But if it's featured it can't be too bad in terms of trust, right...?

There's also probably a lack of dogfooding. "Oh yeah sure it's a good idea to publically display people's likes/comments/everything..." Not to say they haven't also been corrupt to increase engagement

Well obviously. Still a shitty way to run a company.

And the fact they - possibly as a result - don't really put much stock (no pun intended) in privacy. Why are my comments on posts, a notification to other people, to list just one example?

Sure there is. If they've been proven to have repeated privacy violations and ethics violations on a social space where people post a lot of their information it absolutely affects lives.

And yet most people will say "Oh well Youtube has to do this, per the DMCA..." Not that they're wrong as such but nobody knows the truth, no one can get to the bottom of this. There's infinite opinions at play here. Pe

How do we define social media, though? I think Facebook is more damaging than all of them just by their use of attention grabbing techniques and total lack of privacy options.

My question is at what point does Facebook realize that publically displaying people's likes and tagged ins and such is a terrible idea and just stop doing it? And providing real privacy options?

All these deceptive practices seem to be done by Silicon Valley. The attitude/approach to people there must be a little... lacking.

And before someone replies with "How can you possibly say that", you can do both - be optimistic about the future and also change your own personal habits and become educated on the topic in general anyway.

"Copyright" is a broad term but broadly, I agree - with the internet's instant transmission of information it seems absurd to block things based on country or persecute pirates, etc

Seen this type of comment thread before countless times on the Google support forum. They'll placate the complainers by saying they're listening to feedback and then only pay heed to the positive comments and not change a thing. D

It's quite interesting how so many comments here are pro Facebook, anti Whatsapp founders. How big is Facebook's astroturfing department? (Just a theory. But it seems a bit glaring to not point it out.)

Riven was absolutely captivating for its time. It still looks gorgeous today. They did an absolutely incredible job.

Unfortunately there's no accountability in these companies for bold-faced (bald-faced?) lying. They can just stress how much they're listening to our feedback and then kinda go quiet after their latest move goes against absolutely

But I'd still prefer no response than an official response which is bullshit. And the lip service they pay to feedback is nauseating. You're not really listening to feedback. So many people despise Youtube layout changes and they
