Android runs on it, but (as noted in the review) Eken (and the other OEMs) haven't released any sources, so as yet there's real way to build other kernels that will boot, or support the built-in peripherals in the SoC. I saw the video revie

You could try this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39670 It's nowhere near as open, and nowhere near as cute, but it does have a larger screen & keyboard, and 128Mb of RAM. A debian port appears to exist. (I reviewed a very

Depending on who you believe, the scale on the Niger Delta might be slightly out. Not that it changes the overall validity of your argument. One estimate from Google said 1.5 million tons of oil in Nigeria over 50 years. So that's something

This is an interesting one, because I think you're entirely right. The tough question I see is this: would exaggerating, downplaying or relativising the severity of the BP Spill increase or decrease the chances of more catastrophes like Che

Um, you can see it on the surface of the entire earth. How many other man-made things can you see at that scale? At a small enough scale, even pretty small is pretty big.

(Sorry if this was submitted already.) The genius I see here is that the relative size of a large area is really hard for people to actually understand. Until you show it relative to something they know intuitively (like where they live.)

To some extent, it seems that it's something the community can self-regulate against. Read it and don't think it was worthwhile? Don't upvote it. I actually don't mind sensationalist linkbait titles like this, as long as what I'm clicking o

Screen's OK, probably as good as any cheap photo frame. If you want a non-cuddly chumby then it'd probably do the trick with a bit of work. :).

You're correct, I believe 2.1 will run on the same kernel it currently has, albeit sans graphical acceleration. IIRC, 2.2 will at minimum require someone to build a newer kernel, which AFAIK noone has worked out how to do (see my post above

Over the BeagleBoard (and like), the appeal for me (given I'm ditching the screen) is that I don't live in the US. The price of the BeagleBoard plus shipping to Australia makes a big difference. The M001 is $99 including shipping anywhere i

No Debian yet, all I've done so far is put in a serial console to watch it boot (only had it 3 days.) There's a photo of it running debian here, and some details for running debian on another device with the same SoC architecture (WM8505):

Noone has 2.1 running on the M001 yet, and the speculation I've seen is that it doesn't have the RAM (128Mb) or enough graphics acceleration to do it well. I was thinking about trying it myself, but I mostly bought it to put debian on it, a

Is it possible the OP 'cannot' (or more specifically does not want to) switch because they're waiting for options to mature, or something similar? That's one reason I've seen people stick out jobs for a few more months.

Lazywebs googling shows Finland doesn't have a universal minimum wage, but that in 2008 salaries for the lowest paid jobs averaged €1600/mo. So €2000/mo is not too far from what you'd expect "minimum wage" to be, equity notwithstanding. ht

According to Wikipedia the full linux 2.6 kernel tree is now around 12 million LOC. So I'd be guessing a good chunk of the 2.8 million lines of C in Android is the kernel. It'd really depend on how many lines the "core" parts of the kernel
