From what I understand of the (very preliminary) plans for 8 is to integrate some of the elements from Surface, finally do away with the registry, and hide much of the filesystem from the end user among other things that may be more or less

I couldn't agree more. This article was filled with the kind of fluffy juxtapose that says a lot by saying nothing at all about what's actually going on. We stand on the verge of the next great technological expansion of biology, informatio

There's a dock for that.™ The problem with tablets is you always wind up yearning for the things you get with a laptop and it seems apparent the solution is dongles galore. I guess it's great for the peripheral market.

Maybe a few centuries into the future, but at this stage we're still focused on market economies. In your other post you mention betamax vs VHS. You can build a superior product, but if it's cost is too high it won't fit the market need. Ba

It benefits Chinese users to have competition between Baidu and Google. Otherwise, there's no reason for improvement. China want's to have a part in the information economy, not just the manufacturing economy.

I suspect that's unlikely. Google and it's country specific domains are the most trafficked sites on the internet. The level of visibility is too high to make examples of anyone. Worst case scenario they block access and carry on like nothi

True, last I checked MSBuild support for VC++ projects was lacking. I think their solution was to run the build through the visual studio command interface...hopefully it's gotten better.

Also worth point out is the ability to modify the MSBuild file to use parallel build paths - assuming the dependency tree is fairly flat.

I find it awkward as well. I grew up on a dairy farm and helped out with chores starting at the age of 10. Technically that's child labor and it's fairly common place. The utility of my labor had the same effect of helping my family. Though

I would add parts of alphabet city to that list. I can get from C ave to work on 8th ave in 30 minutes by bus, 15-20 by train. 1BR rent is $1650. Harlem is also gentrified and will run a little north of $1200. Express A train from 145th tak

I messed with it as well, but I think there's a lot of inflated importance on page turning speed and it's probably fixable with a software rev either way. I've never been able to turn book pages much faster and it never hindered my reading

I agree on this point, but not because no one wants to. People talk about the "perfect device" and so you end up in feature hell and a device that does everything, but nothing well. It makes marketing easy. "Device X does 11 things, device

To be fair, even what we consider the visible spectrum is subjective. We assign names to specific wavelengths, but that doesn't mean our brains interpret them the same way. Just ask someone that's colorblind.
