It makes it clear what it's for. Intent is good. You can improve signal-to-noise by listing in categories ("best", "okay", "seen it before", "academic-only") and then humans can get something out of it too. Or you can call it a loss and t

The principle applies elsewhere, too. He's right - tailor your resume. Also, make sure what you rock at is big and clear and up-front and featured. Because you hope your resume is being read by somebody who doesn't just read resumes all

It'd be nice if smaller investors (I could probably invest up to $10k or $15k without too much pain) could reasonably be paired up with small percentages of lifestyle businesses. But nobody is going to get rid of the friction in that market

You're up in SF, alas. I need to start building a good list of awesome companies who are in the South Bay and Peninsula, just because I can't be the only one looking. Not that the City isn't nice. It's just a long commute from Fremont.

Link to documentation? If I wanted to build my own little JavaScript preprocessor and make it use SourceMaps in Chrome, how would I know the file format(s)?

You'd think. But you can get much greater differences in pricing if you find out who you're talking to before you give them a price. That's really hard to do with online self-signup.

In small startups it's white, Indian and Asian. There are occasional women but less frequently as programmers. Women are more common as designers and sometimes sysadmins, though. Bigger companies don't look like this. They look more like

No. Shell scripts have the same problem where you're not separating options from filenames and you're often not preventing a single user-supplied argument from expanding into multiple final arguments. The list-form shell commands reference

Zed, you're awesome. With that said -- it's who you're teaching that lets you say this. Right now there are people who know they want to learn programming coming hell or high water, and you do a damn fine job teaching them. There are also

Would they actually (out loud, audibly) object to those comments, or would they just "never make or defend" them? I ask because letting these things slide, or worse letting the comments seem approved-of by mass silence, is doing active ha

Here at Ooyala we do a variation where you can propose your own 2-week project once per quarter, and as long as you get it approved by your team you can go do it. You also do a demo. So it's sort of like what they do, but people individual

It's worth noting that Windows Server lives in a different category, and so it actually counts against Windows being a cash cow in this case. Its category, which includes SQL Server, is the one that beat out "Windows and Windows Live". T

What RAII and Ruby's block statement lack here are automatically doing the reversing of functionality. Few languages have any procedural way to do that. If Ruby had some way to state "the opposite of opening a file is closing a file" and

Doing a fast 3D engine is hard, even if most of the 3D is done for you. It's slow because it's simple, and because JavaScript is actually a fairly hard language to do some of this quickly in. Also because web workers don't work great yet.
