You'd think. But actual organized criminals like bootleggers are/were generally not terribly efficient either. Here's one way to look at it: very, very smart criminals should do much less damage to their victims than they seem to, just fo

That's actually a slipped square knot. But the way you tie it is sort of reminiscent of a clove hitch. As he says on the site, you wind up with the same knot (slipped square) that you'd get by the usual method of tying.

According to the comments, this article is just wrong according to the current IRS web site. cloudkj's comment here seems to be correct.

I really like the code structure he advocates, and "midlayer mistake" is a terrible name for it. He names it by what it avoids.

Or he hates it. I've used Exchange, and the main reason I'd have written this about GMail instead of Exchange is that Exchange does too many things, poorly. It's fine for email, in the sense that I would never use it for personal email and

The author of the article actually demands mixing them. He says that you should never use tabs to do things like format a block of text -- that's what spaces are for. So this guy isn't pro-tab-only. He's in favor of mixing. And I agree wi

His assertion that Ubuntu has made Linux a monoculture because it's up to 30% market share makes me happy. He's dreadfully wrong, but it's nice to see a group so consensus-phobic. It means I certainly won't have to worry about a Linux mo

Well, their site is remarkably quiet about who they are. Absolutely no names of these seasoned investors and entrepreneurs are given. So even if they're a legitimate venture, they seem rather dubious and perhaps a bit sleazy from their w

The strongest arguments I know for Perforce are scaling and performance. Perforce has simply been used for larger projects, on larger servers, by larger companies than just about anything else in existence. It's also presumably good for co

Presumably they have a weakness. As you say, it's hard to quantify what they're doing, but that just means we don't have an easy way to figure it out. It still has statistics, limits and numbers, even if only their accountants have a go

Is this article as crackpot as it sounds? Is there any documentation of that project the article mentions (with a broken link) about worldwide random number generators giving fluctuations during events like Princess Diana's death?
