Maybe. He's competing with headhunters, often at $30k+ per developer found. His charges look pretty modest if he has even a minimal success rate.

In feudalism, the downside of that approach was that if you went off on your own, armies would generally come and (at best) repossess the land or (at worst) kill you. As a programmer, you don't have quite the same issues. Where do you see

I would argue that in that case, the business guys are creating a lot more of those billions in value than we generally credit them with.

If so, then more of us should go work for ourselves. Put our money where our mouth is. If we're truly creating so much more wealth for these companies than we take in salary, it should be easy (ish) to turn that into more money for ourselv

The Micropreneur Academy is also worth looking into on this count, though it's a bit more specialized.

What, really? You don't think that that's a significant part of why being a rock star counts as a really high-status job? Not all of them make a tremendous amount of money, but pretty much all of them can get laid on any given night.

That would be "don't take much money." To avoid losing a controlling stake in your company, don't sell one.

I suspect he doesn't care much about the storage space. JPEGs make the edges of the lines blurry or noisy - they're designed for things like nature photographs, not sharp hard edges between single-color areas.

If it is the "best job in the world," then by definition you would be happy to do it No. Somebody could, in a logically consistent way, be unhappy when doing absolutely any job.

Developing Chrome is a risk. It's only a hedge against risk if it works . It's a little like if you could buy insurance, but there'd be a 25% chance that you paid for it and it just didn't do anything. The insurance is a hedge against ri

So the trend here is... Ruby syntax, compiled to other languages' semantics? This would excite me more if Ruby's syntax were better. I want metaprogramming on top of everything and its brother, not Ruby syntax. Even though I love Ruby.
