A purchase is not a contract. The closest thing is the EULA for iOS and I am not sure it states such a restriction, but lets assume it does. Still then the user should be able to load an other operating system.

The user owns the device. They should be able load software without apples blessing. The problem is simple. There is no way for a user to load their own signing keys for the boot ROM to load other OSes like linux, or even simpler disable si

First it is hard to eat something you raised as a pet. However, people have eaten coyote here in the states, and one thing is the glands can make the meat taste pretty horrid at times. If you’re choosing an animal as livestock you probably

I was not going to upvote this, but your comment about "lawmakers might try to regulate who can get a certificate" because it is certainly possible since CAs are well centralized... Although, not likely since browsers don't r

A wax apple... Not the most solid proof. That just proves it has the right appearance. (although if there is a distinctive feature might be good enough) Honestly, was expecting that they found either an old seed or dried sample to compare g

That's a pretty good price. Imagine if masks did not cost so much to make. We would see tons more custom designs.

Just because it's in their self interests does not mean getting rid of the forced walled garden does not benefit other developers. At the end of the users own the devices not apple. It should ultimately be up to the user.

I was not saying anything about that, but if you look at that paper or video you can see the bitstream is passed through an AES decryption stage before programing the logic fabric. This break found a way to read the data after that AES stag

I would like to also add if your curious about more modern FPGA bit-streams there are these two projects which reverse-engineered bit streams for open source synthesis. https://github.com/SymbiFlow/prjxray https:/

The bitstream is probably decrypted as it enters the chip. After that at best you might have some simple xoring at each CLB to make someone probing with needles life harder. Also making sure each data line is not on the top or bottom layer

You basically need to build the program yourself and it only works for 7 days. Also good luck loading anything like an alternative OS.

If that was case people would quit buying apple devices because people who jail break their device downloaded malware... However, that is not the case. If anything those jail breaks lead to an increase of users.

It's honestly the issue is the card form factor. If you ditched the card form factor you could use USB or other common interfaces. The card form factor limits or requires it's own interface. Current cards with chips or contact les

Honestly, a locked down device is the problem not the app store. Let users sideload.

You know it's possible to have a signed boot loader without locking the owner out of the device. Moreover, I do mind such freedom being taken away.
