Want to pay me $249 to read your blog? :) On a more serious note, the average facebook user spends more time on facebook (and views more pages, ads, etc) than the average reader spends on your blog.

Good advice. There's a balance between reaching out too much, and not reaching out enough. Almost everyone I know (myself included), errs on the side of not reaching out enough. So, go ahead, cold-email someone. Say "hi" to the person si

1) Work on challenging problems. Try to do something you're not sure you can. 2) Find a good mentor - it could be a prof at a local university, family friend who is a hacker 3) Practice, practice, practice - write javascript to make stuff

Yeah, I could see this being useful. One drawback is that it takes away the original url - if I send my friend an un-highlighted CNN url, s/he can see it's from CNN.com, whereas you can't with a highlighted article.

I agree it's more relevant once your up and running. But you should also follow it when you're launching. Anyone remember what facebook's wall was when it launched?? Yep, just a textbox! And facebook had no photo albums or anything like

del.icio.us was built over several years with only incremental improvements. Plus, early adopters are tolerant, and if you choose them right, easy to impress. To quote someone else (maybe pg, i can't remember who right now): "It [your fir

hack? tsk tsk. if you get anything under 1000, it's probably quicker to subtract multiples of 70 until it gets to 2 digits - you should just memorize all the 2 digits multiples of 5,7,11,13, etc. Seriously, there aren't that many! for ex

Agreed - I don't think it maximizes the win probability per se. I just think it's better than the current system. Point taken about the "exploding near zero". I could do something like Population / (.2 + 5^(x/3-1) ), where x is average s

Why is that conflicting? I'm only proposing to identify such states statistically, and give them higher weight.

Innovation number 10: Put the article on one page, not 9 different pages. Me being annoyed at waiting for 9 pages to load doesn't make me any more likely to click on your ads!

I wish the article would go into more depth about how FinCEN was used to spot Spitzer's transactions. Was it a person scanning the database, or some algorithm the Feds use to identify suspicious transactions? They say that only transactio

Just FYI, I can't see your email in your profile. The "email" field is not public by default. You could put your email in the "about" field.

Yeah, I've wondered, how exactly does Google do that?? Anyway, in the short term, a manual system would probably be more accurate.

There could simply be a "report duplicate" link (where you specify which article it's a repost of) next to a new post for the first 1 hour after it's posted. If enough people say it's a duplicate of a particular article, then it goes off,

As someone who attended a liberal arts college for a short while, as well as a top-tier "big" school, I feel somewhat qualified to comment on their argument. (1) The quality of a liberal education that makes it so effective is that the subj

I'm pretty sure the sorting of comments has nothing to do with karma of the poster, just the votes on that particular comment, and how old it is - similar to how stories are ranked on the front page.

On a related note, the community's voting patterns encourage the witty one-line comments over the thoughtful 3-sentence comments. Look at any article, and you'll see the type of comments this incentive produces.

Umm, Google is not the biggest software company in the world. Microsoft and Cisco, to name two off the top of my head, are both bigger than Google by revenue and market cap.
