TechCrunch is being cryptic ( http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/25/googles-misleading-blog... ) “Google also says 'But we’re proud to have the most comprehensive index of any search engine.' That may be true today, but it probably won’t be

Search is also a game of scale. And Microsoft has billions to throw at building this. C'est la vie, I guess.

He never said he waited two months to plan. He just said that he was still facing those issues two months after the kid was born. He seems like a smart and responsible guy. The logical conclusion that most of us would come to is that ra

I hope you're not implying that kids have the same failure rates as startup companies. It really seems like you're trying to force the analogy here. +1 for the corollary though :-)

It seems that most of us aren't explicitly aware when our brain is "tired" (as opposed to our muscles). But we have to decide that we are too tired to make decisions. In some cases, that may be non-trivial. I don't mean to sound cynical

You'd need some way to vet users, so that you could seem credible when selling ads to advertisers. As an advertiser, it'd be hard to me to verify that you're actually displaying my ad, and even harder for me to estimate my ROI.

Microsoft Office will eventually lose its throne, but I'm not sure I agree when you say that a startup can do better at making an online version of Office than Microsoft can. Microsoft has built-in advantages: they have an existing codebas

Seems like you're looking for something like Kosmix ( http://www.kosmix.com/ ). The way they present results indicates that design is a major part of their users' experience.

Agreed, but that's not my point. The article claims amazing percentage growth, and then uses that to say that if Apple keeps growing at this rate, Microsoft should be scared. It's ridiculous to expect long-term growth at this rate. Maybe

i can't seem to find a simple solution on-line Even in this day and age, the off-line solutions are better. Get a DVD or flash drive and send it by mail or FedEx. Even on a moderately fast connection 5 GB is no joke to download.

Fair enough. If users click it, then it can't hurt I suppose. Live Search uses similar "Is this helpful?" prompts that just annoy me, but presumably some people must be voting. As for me, I'll tell you what I like by what I click.

What's the point of the arrows? If I like it, I'll click and not come back. If not, I won't click, or I'll come right back if I do. Voila. facebook tried a similar voting mechanism in their News Feed, and withdrew it pretty soon. Again,

Continuing that line of reasoning, that makes 37signals the more "credible" source because they're unbiased. YC has a vested financial interest in lots of young people attempting "it". Now that doesn't have to mean it's not in your interes

The Windows Mobile is over a decade old as a platform for apps. The Blackberry also allows 3rd party apps. As a platform, there's nothing new here with the iPhone except lots of hype and a slick UI.

MS is all about separating search into verticals, as opposed to Google's one-box-fits-all-queries approach. Live Search is desperate for anything that will attract more queries, so I really doubt they'd kill BOSS.
