Especially after Microsoft's Cashback.com outage on Black Friday (the worst day for an e-shopping site to go down), I'm surprised they let this happen. This was on the calendar for a long time, and they should've gone to great lengths t

Machine Learning is not a language-specific thing. Maybe Python makes it easy out-of-the box (I haven't used Python -- I don't know), but you do it in whatever language you want. Many languages have modules you can just use. And of course

Also note that for several of these (like Frogmetrics, Picwing, and others), pageviews aren't the best metric of "success" because the website isn't the product.

"The greater the competition from Microsoft, the more Apple will bend to users." Mac market share has only been growing over time. If Apple was going to "bend to its users", they would've done that 5 years ago when they were still struggli

Exactly. Vista was more of a "lay the groundwork" release that focused on security improvements (UAC), etc. Win 7 won't change Vista much, it'll just make it look prettier -- and people will love it. But the groundwork was laid in Vista.

Cuil's problem wasn't even that their site crashed (that was just a minor blip). Their main problem was that their search results weren't very relevant.

Well, for starters, the video screens on the seatbacks of 777s (and other aircraft) are running some flavor of Linux. But that's not a counterexample to her argument, per se, since the video screens aren't critical to the plane's operation

In fact, MSN seems to be the only site in the Alexa top 20 that does validate. (But Live.com and Microsoft.com don't validate, so Microsoft isn't consistent about validating)

I do think it would be a good thing if users became more sophisticated. But if your business model relies on people significantly changing their behavior, you're fighting an uphill battle.

You mean the math is intentionally "scaled up"? Or that the math is just easier & there is no effort made to rescale it? Given that these scores are used for comparison so often, you'd think they would normalize the scores so that a 7

"The bottleneck in web 2.0 today is generally the sophistication of the average web surfer" I think this is the wrong approach. As the saying goes, "Make something people want", not "Make people want something".

I don't think the time taken for refueling, etc is the limiting factor. There are a couple sequences of events that need to happen (simultaneously) to get the plane ready to leave. Sequence 1: allow arriving passengers to deplane, then cle
