I was actually poking fun at the fact that at this very moment I am working in a language that is only two years old. My technical reasoning behind this is that Go is "fast as balls." I feel a blog post coming on...

Totally agree. This is tools for the sake of tools and it's detrimental to shipping actual products. Excuse me while I tab back to Emacs and continue editing this Go code...

You never owned your iTunes music purchases - you are licensing them. Take a gander at the EULA you clicked through without looking at.

Take the money. You are unlikely to get another 18-20k raise without changing jobs. You are not on a coast? Plan on moving west or east? It's expensive out here... Take the money and try and save half your income if you can - it will put yo

Hiring experienced generalists with some web development background is a better approach. I would argue strong Javascript skills are more important than ever having used RoRs even if RoRs is the primary stack you use. RoRs is just not that

I see you studied computer science at least a little. I would start with a few of the programming guides on developer.apple.com and check out the sample code from apple [1] and pick up a copy of "Programming in Objective-C 3rd edition" [2]

I'm having flashbacks to early 2000's and writing repots for a portfolio management system called Advent Axys. This thing they call replang has a RPN syntax and it can make any hardened perl programmer cry. The scary thing is Advent is stil

Unless you have a trademark on the name you will not get any help from Apple and even then it is going to be an up hill battle so I would concentrate on making your own app as good as it can be.

I put that in there because I write Objective-C all day and worked at Apple for a year and, so yeah, I'm a fan of the comedy option. That reminds me I need to check out gnustep.

I'm pretty sure there was a link to it from Dennis ritchies' home page: http://www.cs.bell-labs.com/who/dmr The site is down now though. Some forums say it's temporary but I don't know for sure.

Joel likes the sink or swim approach apparently. The first book, Code - Charles Petzold, is only ten bucks on the Kindle right now (SOLD) and I own the other two. I remember SICP being like 90 bucks for my hardcover copy and I'm pretty sure

Apple ships OSX on a pretty consistent schedule every 18 months to two years and I think they had their hands full with all the existing stuff slated for Lion and had also only recently acquired Siri. Engineering teams remain small and focu

Do. Next is to come up with a web app and build it! Come up with a "simple" idea. Write out a spec or outline. Pick some small WSGI based tools like Flask or web.py or something else that strikes your fancy (Not anything monolithic and huge
