iOS really has 3 levels of access for things like this. For the most sensitive things like location, contacts and photos, it prompts for user permission. There's a lower category for things like background processing, you declare to Ap

There's a difference between checking if root access can be granted and gaining root access. If Uber were to use this access, the superuser app would prompt the user to approve it. The user would then have to grant permission. There&

There's perfectly reasonable explanation for almost all of these permissions, and there's nothing in this analysis that suggests they're doing otherwise. The only one that I couldn't think of was WRITE_SETTINGS Permissi

While the condescending tone is unnecessary, logicallee is right. There are actually zero links, Google just removes the quotes and shows results for that. None of them seem to have all the words together or the acronym. Just random occu

You're right, the real-time multiplayer stuff is only available for Android and iOS right now. It'd be nice if they made a web-socket solution to handle this. https://developers.google.com/games/services/

The fixed position form on the left hand side lays over the content unless your browser is really wide. Basically makes the content unreadable on mobile.

I wouldn't say it's that small a value. If there was no relevance to where you started in the life, the odds of reaching the top 5th from the bottom 5th would be 20%. 12+% is where San Jose and San Francisco stack up, which seem

I've used both Uber and the local taxi service in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Columbus, OH. I can tell you that Uber is vastly superior in every way. The cars are cleaner and newer, the drivers are friendlier, the service is cheap

This is a problem with a lot of the enhancements that custom ROMs provide on Android. They break the API contract a developer has with the SDK and unexpected things happen. It's the reason all these ROMs aren't allowed to ship w

I've been switching back and forth between Android and iPhone development for 4 years now, and I'd say development time is roughly equal between the platforms. A developer that understands Android well should instinctively know h

This still relies on the legitimate app not storing the key they fetched in a public directory so the attacker can read it. You can keep adding layers upon this, but it doesn't change that.

That's really just security through obscurity. You're still shipping code that explains the process of obtaining the key. If they store their credentials to obtain the key in a public directory, it's just as vulnerable.

This is the nature of shipping client code. Any key they used can be extracted by a sufficiently determined individual. The real security issue was not storing the database in the app's private directory.

This is really the status quo when it comes to free Android utility apps. Most users skip quickly past the permission when installing, and as a result, you can generally stuff anything you want in there. To compliment this, the app is ad

There's many reasons these polls are unscientific, but I think one of the most glaring issues that could be easily corrected is it tells you the results before you vote which naturally influences how people think about their answer.
