I have two hives in the yard. (Palo Alto) We produce 10-20 gallons of honey per year. Fun to harvest - kids love to get hands-on. Fun to give away esp to random strangers.

The Peter Thiel stuff that you reference is a good framework for identifying AI-based market opportunities over the next decade or two. But it doesn't have much to say about the existential risks posed by a future intelligence that we

NY Times concludes by asserting: "We (humans and AI) are going to have a lot of the same problems, and any company is preferable to going it alone." Utterly childish wishful thinking. AI is not going to be your surrogate mommy.

This society rewards restraint and conformity. Then there are the mood-altering drugs. When my boys were in elementary school, the teachers wanted to drug them into compliance because they were 'too competitive'. Nurse Ratchet

And with Elixir, there is no chance for a future 'runs best on Chrome' campaign, no chance that you'll be trapped in a corporate-controlled walled garden. Not that I'm trying to raise doubts about Dart. Jose and team h

Elixir also gives you really cool meta-programming tools, a way to extend the language, that aren't part of CoffeeScript.

We've used marionette - wanted to like it but found the learning curve too difficult. Switched to React - much simpler learning curve with good performance.

There are tools to make use of HTTP in all sorts of ways. Curl, Wget, Restful APIs, Sinatra, Grape, etc. Fast, flexible, lightweight. Email - not so much. Want a local email server? There's Postfix - yuckkk. The overhead of spam -

One of the things I like best is the pre-announcement that Rails 5 will be built for Ruby 2.2. I appreciate the role that DHH and Rails play in keeping the community moving forward.

A great solution is to run DNSMASQ on your local network, and configure it to block unwanted domains. That way it works on any connected device automatically, with no plugins or browser overhead. There are plenty of guides - google it!
