Fusion of maps, 3d modeling, electricity & lease rates, solar intensity, installers. Easy to use. This feels like something new and powerful. For society: I wonder if it is safe for so much power to be concentrated in one organization

Terminating problem customers seems like reasonable and smart company policy. Maybe frustrating for the customer being terminated, but to me it doesn't signal 'implosion is near' for the company.

It's so difficult to create a successful software product. Amazon has done it dozens of times. An exceptional record. Many great companies have been driven by intensity and competition. The old days of Microsoft and Intel come to m

That's a summary? tldr My summary: the article is a cultural-marxist parable. The victim is the hacker. The oppressor is the yuppie. In olden days the hacker lived in a sort of eden, but now the oppressor has trapped the hacker in

The world has a secular community revolution, and HN is a exemplar! HN has shared values, ideology, taboos, status, law-givers and exiles. Don't know if it's an improvement over what came before, but IMHO communities like HN are

How does this compare to Docker's fig-based orchestration solution??

Really? Sports team salaries are public. The 2014 LA Galaxy top salary is 4.5M (Landon Donovan), and the bottom salary is 36K (Bradford Jamieson IV).

Sharing salaries has become a theme here on HN. I'm curious: Why Now? Who is pushing these stories, and who benefits from Open Salaries?

I've been hit by falling shot dozens of times. Still alive. Eye injury is a risk. You need eye protection, in the form of goggles or ballistic glasses.

I like the change. Firefox seems faster. Better to opt-in to Flash as-needed.

Former GM employee here: Michigan's Big3 and their Media partners hate change. And change is coming: electrification, self-driving car-as-service, direct sales, diminishing per-capita car miles. Tighten your seat-belts Big3.

None of those features are new - I can get everything on your list with CoffeeScript. For me the advantage of CoffeeScript is that it is less verbose. Main advantage that I see in ES6 is that Transpiling is now widely accepted.

by andyl 11y ago
Both CS and ES6 use transpilers. ES6 syntax is ugly and adds no features. ES6 makes me think: the emperor has no clothes.

I've seen the new cars in the San Antonio / Middlefield area. They look small - golf-cart sized. When you can use them via an Uber-like service, I'm in.

Well said. Many who rejected coffeescript because it required a tool chain now embrace ES6 which requires a toolchain. People rave about ES6 features like classes, arrow functions, destructuring, variable interpolation - as if they are so

I've used ES6 and prefer coffeescript - IMHO more concise, easier to read, and has been place for years.

I can't keep up with the churn. Will come back to Docker in a year or two to see if things have stabilized.

I want to like Docker. I just don't have the time to learn the tooling and keep up with all the changes. Maybe in a year or two when things stabilize.
