My friends died in their late thirties / early forties. I don't know all the details. One guy's liver gave out - another got into pills and I'm not sure what else. I don't know what killed the others, just that alcohol was contributor. S

I grew up in a drinking culture, and damn we loved to party. Nothing was funnier than a drunk friend doing something stupid. Twenty five years later: four of my school friends are dead from alcohol. Fuck - that kind of takes the fun out o

With terminator, you can have a windowing editor (vim) inside a windowing session manager (tmux) inside a windowing terminal (terminator). Inception!

I also hated tmux mouse wheel scrolling. But tmux 1.8 mouse wheel scrolling seems much improved over tmux 1.6 - to the point that it looks quite usable.

thanks @pkrumins - the download/compile/install cycle took about 30 seconds - the compiled executable seems to work perfectly.

I have two hives in my back yard (Palo Alto CA). They are doing great! IMHO, the decline of bees is all related to 'industrial bees', wherein vendors stress their bees by trucking them around the country, and expose their bees to pesticid

I love Vim. I understand the 'Vim is a language' concept, and use it every day. But I have to wonder: is this the best that Vim can do? Vim as a language is a great concept. But IMHO, the execution sort of sucks. Twenty years have gone

The politics on HN is gender/diversity politics, and IMHO HN has been somewhat riven by it. Witness the heated discussion on this very thread. To me all politics is off-topic - I'm interested in the technology discussions.

I had a job where people were really mean to me too. It was like constant, never ending pressure! One time I got fired, cause my boss didn't like me, although he wouldn't say it to my face. That really hurt.
