I think the point is that we need both. One is short/medium term and the other is medium/long term. An asteroid/comet impact big enough to wipe us out is a statistically certainty - not science fiction.

May I just say this launch was a bit of a mess? The web page implies you can try it immediately. Initially it wasn't available. A few hours later it was in both the web UI and the mobile app - I got a popu[ telling me that GPT-4o was a

I think there's a subtle point here about the cost of layoffs being hard to quantify but hugely underestimated by large companies. A culture where employees feel that their dedication to the company mission is reciprocated must surely

I disagree. AI will be able to do "rigour" before it can do "thought provoking". Part of Adam's appeal is the fact that behind it is a human being struggling to understand the world and struggling to explain it. LLM

Thanks for the snark. I just spotted the update and came back to add a message. I've got way better things to do with my time than just to post on HN to get imaginary internet points.

A workaround is literally "a way to avoid triggering a bug". So if it's a workaround, then you're admitting it's a bug. So the distinction is between "We screwed up but at least you can do x to mitigate it"
