The worst localization bug I'm aware of is the default conversion of string to datetime in MS SQL Server. If the session language is non-US, the ISO formatted string '1991-02-03' becomes 2rd March rather than 3rd Feb. yyyyMMd

You could do that in Excel, but Data Tables are the better way.

Once it's on Windows you can add it as a shell in Windows Terminal. You might be mixing up cmd with windows terminal though. Cmd is truly crap which is why it was replaced with powershell 20 years ago.

The rise of targeted advertising is the main culprit of bad UX. Everywhere there's dark patterns, performance overhead, mandatory updates degrading user experience, unnecessary JS and walled gardens breaking accessibility/compatib

You can expect data to be destroyed when automatically parsing csv/tsv (default behaviour), especially because it's dependent on the last settings used in the text-to-columns wizard. Then there's all well-known bugs like floa

I'm surprised at this take, since so far AI has mainly reduced the cost of creating content similar to what already exists.

GPU mining died last year. There's so little liquidity post-merge that it's only worth mining as a way to launder stolen electricity. The bitcoin people still waste raw materials, and prices are relatively sticky with so few suppl

Final Fantasy 3-4 is the big example for this. Remade in 3d, then remade again in 2d to appeal to nostalgia for that style.

In-depth crypto hit piece by a well known poster on r/buttcoin. The production quality is rough in some sections (I found the female echo-voice particularly grating near the start), so if you're looking for a specific highlight ra

.NET has something close in standard libraries, in that you can try converting a string to System.Net.IPAddress and other similar classes. It's for parsing rather than search though, you'd still need regex if e.g. searching unstru

Firefox wasting time on re-implementing every pointless Chrome feature is half the reason we're in this space to begin with. A browser doesn't need to be an operating system.

I'm no expert on web dev, mostly working in BI/DBA. Running commands over WinRM or SSH can return objects of any type from remote machines. In the background I believe it's converting them to serialized CLIXML over the wire.

That's the one. It's for wrappers around existing CLI tools. Still feels experimental, but it's a nice idea to get objects from e.g. robocopy without dropping into regex and parsing it yourself.

It feels solved in raw Powershell functions, but running external CLI tools inevitably returns text and ruins the workflow. "Crescendo" has been marketed as a solution and looks cool, but it means relearning the tool or documentat

It would be absolutely impossible to 100% ban mining. They could seize assets of miners big enough to need specialised energy deals, which would get rid of 90% of mining in the USA. They could crack down on exchanges banking in USD, which w

The other important factor is permissions. Truncate in MSSQL requires alter permissions, so a user that can wipe a table can also change its definition. Not true with delete.
