I personally like talking about life-stuff with certain people, but not with all. In practice there's a handful of people where we do share those things, and a bunch where we don't. And imo that's totally fine. We usually sta

Honestly curious. What is the dissonance that you see there? Digital fiat currency is indeed bank databases. Similarly, stock markets and stock ownership are also stored in permissioned databases. Both are highly regulated and enforced by l

Europe has some gas reserves. We could "see out winter if Russian imports stop" [0]. I personally don't mind wearing an extra sweater or jacket inside if it stops Europe from paying billions to Gazprom. > While a complete

Is Russia an _official_ enemy though? I mean morally, after yesterday, of course. But is there any legal grounds?

For USDT, you could make the case that it is comparable to the assets banks hold from customers. The creators of USDT claim that every holder can exchange it back to 1USD each. Although legally this is very different from a bank, I would ar

That sounds like someone that has confidence and curiosity. In Dutch we have a word "relativeren" which I think loosely translates to "being able to put things in perspective". I think that is a really important super po

Relatable story here about security. My dad is a pilot, and pre 9/11, I would sometimes join him as a kid on flights from Europe to the US. I still vividly remember walking with a backpack behind my dad in pilot uniform trough all the

Is spending $15 on an alarm clock wasting money? That thing will probably last a decade or two and outlive a couple of phone generations. You’ll get to lead by example and perhaps even improve your sleep.

That’s easy to fix with a $15 alarm clock.

Sure, but market orders or bids that cross your ask will trigger a transaction at your ask price. I’m sure quote stuffing happens, especially deeper in the order book. Or with very small amounts closer to the cross.

But they _are_ willing to trade at those prices. The person who posted the highest bid is willing to buy at that price and the person who posted the lowest ask is willing to sell at that price. Both regardless of the last trade price. The l

That Coinbase, the US company, can be held accountable for USDC, and falls within the reach of the FBI. If USDT fails and goes to 0, people will lose their money, and probably no government will be able to go after the creators of USDT (Bit

Any source on that Q=30 requirement for practical reactors? I’d assume that anything >1 is theoretically “profitable” and something like 2~5 might already be economically viable.

Even without fuel, geothermal still has constraints. Where can we build it? What are the build costs and costs to run (maintenance, staffing, etc)? I doubt we can scale geothermal indefinitely. Fusion might suffer from similar constraints,

True, but if we can crack fusion energy, we can stop burning fossil fuels and we might even have ample energy to extract CO2 from the atmosphere.

Wrt NFT: yes. Just like the art business is great for laundering, so is the art+crypto combo of NFT’s. At least, that’s how I think about it.

I love my Fully Jarvis standing desk. It has a curved edge so I can “stand” into it. The Capisco Hag chair is even better. Tens of ways to sit/stand on it. Which is perfect for me since I can’t sit still.
