As an ergonomic nut I have to recommend the kinesis edge gaming keyboard. Most mech keyboards are just fancy design plus mech keys. The kinesis lets you find the best horizontal distance apart and change their tilt from center. It's no

It's a nice gesture, but it's a perverse incentive. These retail jobs need to pay a living wage. The philosophy that these jobs are stepping stones, not destinations, is clearly false. This perspective lets Walmart justify perpetu

It's still the case! At the end of the day, the person making the call is a hiring manager. It's pretty hard for a hiring manager to be called out as too selective. However, if you let in a few bad apples then you look really bad.

If you go to an Ivy, everything you wrote is incredibly true. Going to any Ivy or other elite (or even semi-elite) school is a HUGE benefit if for no reason other than networking. As you move down the scale that becomes less and less true.

A lot of these problems would go away if we made student loan debt dischargeable in bankruptcy. We've created a system that reaps huge profits in encouraging people to go to school, regardless if that's the right place for them. I

College is probably a great thing for some people, but it's been oversold. It's not the destination, it's just one way of getting there. One reason why it's so easy to sell, is that college is a near universal experience

The problems listed were with the interaction model. There's nothing I've seen in GitLab's UX that would indicate it's any better.

I just don't get it. How can you make a tool for the pro market with no thoughts about price/performance or upgradeability? Apple seems to think that deviating from their consumer oriented design philosophy is anathema, even when

The other problem is that 401ks let you do dumb stuff pensions don't. Dumb stuff like pulling most of your funds in the 2008 crisis and holding it in cash to miss out on the rebound. Or investing in borderline scam products like variab

If you're a successful working programmer you shouldn't need to study to pass your next interview only to forget it all again after a couple more years on the job. That is why these tests are bogus. If they measured useful skills

This sort of attitude is why tech has a reputation as a privileged boys club. These qualities may have helped in the early days but he also applied them internally and to great negative effect. How you can conveniently ignore that is beyond

The whole reason companies go public is to raise capital. Without buybacks and dividends as at least potential future possibilities this would be hampered. Additionally, companies guarding mountains of cash is problematic. Sometimes compani

Yes but then you need to support a whole additional piece of infrastructure and you have to write and support more code. For a lot of use cases that's a waste of time and money. This is a case of YAGNI for the use cases I mentioned.
