I use dvorak and Vim. You can remap the keys easily enough, here's my vimrc for example: http://github.com/andrewvc/vim-settings/blob/master/vimrc I only remapped some of the keys though. Remapping ':' is really useful, I have it mapped t

It probably depends on your stack. TFA's author is a Rails developer, like myself. I've used Rad Rails, the eclipse based Rails IDE, and I just find myself less productive in it than vim + a handful of terminals. I really tried to like Rad

I think this can be extended to any interviewee who starts redesigning your stack before they're even hired can be rejected.

First, the analysis relies on every step from request to response being evented, which in turn relies on the existence of event-based libraries for everything you want to do. This is one of the main reasons I like node.js, EVERYTHING is e

In my mind, metafilter had the right idea years ago. Charge $5 per account. Keeps most of the scum out.

This is fascinating, but for a lot of us building web apps we have to scale beyond a single box, which means shared state needs to be in something like memcached. I love Clojure, but it's concurrency constructs aren't that relevant to most

Considering the fact that you can't buy 1gbps of transit in a carrier hotel for anywhere near $26/mo, there's bound to be problems with that idea.

I haven't been able to find any large (or medium size) OSS apps written in Compojure. The best I was able to dig up was http://github.com/briancarper/cow-blog . Compojure doesn't do much for you (it's like Sinatra), I find it elegant, but

This article asks some interesting questions, but provides few numbers. The big question isn't "are paid dating sites dying". I think the answer is clearly yes, but quite slowly. The real question is about free sites like okcupid.com and pl

There's going to be code, only JS and Ruby though. I'd rather not have to learn latex for this to be honest. I just need simple slides, with code, and maybe a picture or two. Perhaps I'm over thinking this and should just use Google docs.

The catch is, if you trim Apache down to do only what you need, the margin between it and Nginx becomes much smaller. While this may possibly be true (and I'm not sure it is for high levels of concurrency), there's a reason why I don't b

This raises the question, who can afford to build an internet application in flash these days? It seems that making heavy use of flash in any new product would be a big mistake. Edit: s/begs/raises/

Unfortunately not, we're looking to fill the position quickly, and it'd be too hard to work that out internationally. Sorry!

If speed isn't a concern, that's great. I really like linux software raid, mdraid. It's FAST and it makes the drives portable between hardware.

True. RAID is about reliability and performance, and it seems the Drobo isn't winning points there either.
