FogBugz in general is terrible. I use it everyday, and it's remarkable insofar as how amazingly bad the UI is. I was shocked to finally use software by Joel, who's essays I'd been reading for years, and discover that it was terrible.

Yes, it's all doable, but working around JS's kinks is terrible. Why? A programming language has one job, and that is to be a good programming language. Whether I can write a useful program in it is uninteresting, because that's a propert

If I'm reading up on a new technology it's useful to understand what they mean when they say 'operations are O(1)'. Additionally, when writing an API for use by other developers its useful to say, this operation runs in constant time, that

I generally agree, most logic questions are useless, but Big-O notation I use every day. Programmers who don't understand the performance difference between Array#include? and Set#include? in ruby are dangerous!

Agreed, also, for Vim vs. Emacs, most users of both probably use the GUI variants at this point, which leave no shell history. I still run emacs on remote terms, but then I don't make the mistake of uploading my bash history into a git repo

I always wonder about the 'good alcohol won't leave you hung over' theory. I mean, if I'm drinking a Jack and Coke or a Jameson Rocks I'm probably at a concert or a dive bar, staying up late and having one too many drinks. Whereas if I'm dr

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I agree completely, on the other, being a 'first language' has really hindered scheme in the minds of programmers. Many (ridiculously) think of it as a ridiculous teaching language they wer

That's true, however it's been clear for at least 4-5 years now that Perl 6 was a boondoggle. From the outside the Perl community looks like its barely holding together.

Ugh, that seems terrible. It smacks of compromise, when what the perl community needs is a fresh set of ideas. They need to name Perl 6 something else fix the image of Perl 5. Perl 6 should never have been named Perl anyway, it's a brand ne

Eh, even the least charitable would have to admit that frameworks enforce style. On a large project, this matters hugely. I don't care how good your devs are they DO have different opinions re: style.

That's why I signed as well. The point is that firing should be on the table as the first option. The public needs a DAMN good reason not to fire this prosecutor. I think we're all well aware that she's probably not the worst prosecutor

You're doing it wrong, skim a bunch of profiles and copy and paste short messages with very slight variations. Investing time in a first message, hell even reading a whole profile on an online dating site is a huge waste of time. Also, stop

And this is why, everywhere I've ever worked, I've had to say RAID is NOT backup. There are varying degrees of receptiveness to this, because actual backups are a giant pain in the ass, and have a very annoying lifecycle.

As far as redundant kv encoding isn't gzip good enough? Sure, it's more generalized, but tailored compression schemes often aren't the win they're touted as. Additionally, they can't exploit scenarios where multiple pairs are repeated (for
