The set of problems where you're really struggling between mongodb and dynamodb as a choice is practically non-existent. They have hugely different characteristics and vastly different trade-offs. You might want to spend some time read

Well, if it makes you feel better, the new code keyboard also uses Cherry switches, so they may hit the same issues. AFAIK cherry's the only mechanical switch key maker left.

Plus, the generic behaviors of a Pet (say, life and death), are all logically separate from dog specific things. Even if the world only contains dogs, having a Pet class might lead to more organized code.

Fascinating stuff, however, as a clojure user, I just don't care yet. JS UI frameworks are made of dev ease of use, not speed. I'm glad this stuff exists, I just hope that useable frameworks are the next phase in the development o

A lot of this seems weird. If I imbibe 0.5 liters of wine exactly once in my life I doubt there's any effect. Same for 2 cigarettes. For a lot of things there are thresholds that must be crossed before any effect is created.

I agree, but it's not really a 'problem'. Knowing enough about how the internet works to save, say, $10/mo on your bill due to pro-rated charges probably just isn't worth it for most people. I'm sure we'd

Home users don't really want unmetered connections, the costs would be too high, and it'd be wasteful.

I skipped college (dropped out of a community college to be precise, took exactly on CS course). I'm a well paid dev, and I have no trouble getting work. I worked my ass off, studied a CS curriculum on my own (before coursera and gener

The worst kind of arms race. Let's all just take up more space and burn more fuel on the road to be bigger than the next guy. Did her father consider that SUVs are easier to roll? Also, while his point about momentum may be correct, it

That's mostly a function of age*avg.popularity.per.year. Java, python, ruby, etc. have been around long enough that available libraries are equivalent if not better. A lot of CPAN's libs are likely cruft from the language being so

My impression was that development meant apps not in the production env. Now it's much more clear. I'd definitely change the wording.

It affected my ability to run commands on production applications. The fact that the status was degraded only for 'development' was, in my mind, disingenuous. Production should should have been orange, not green.

Uptime has never really been Heroku's strong suit. I wonder why we've never heard a meta-analysis from them as far as what they could do to improve it.

Out of curiosity, where's the love for knockout? It's mature, and works well, but gets no press anymore.

Hi guys, I wound up writing this tool because cURL, while awesome, is not very ergonomic for writing JSON heavy elasticsearch queries. This tool does the following: Auto-checks JSON as you type Compact, auto-sizing layout, for maximum

At my company we've open sourced a ruby gem for an elastic search client but kept the rails integration closed for some of the same reasons. I just don't have time to write a version that runs with vanilla rails. Our gem relies on

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, since I can use viewbinding with existing backbone projects. Knockout is quite mature, so I don't feel like I'm missing much. If anyone's curious I'm using it for my elasticsearch query

If you understand clojure that code sample isn't hard to understand. Of course, I don't really know what it does, because reading 4 lines in a library without knowing anything else is always confusing.

The ruby ecosystem is more valuable than the ruby VM or any of the other stuff. Go libraries are not nearly as comprehensive as ruby gems. Ultimately library availability affects productivity as much as language features do.
