Sudden deceleration (or acceleration) is probably the last thing you want if the remote disconnects. I'd guess some audible alarm letting you know the remote is no longer functioning + disconnecting the drive system (motors and brakes) so i

As a side note to the article, it's interesting to contrast the author's RoR school ( http://flatironschool.com/ ) where the goal is to get people from zero to junior level with that of Hacker School ( https://www.hackerschool.com/ ) th

This is actually something we considered (we originally built this tool to import data from one of the major vendors). Their data was consistent enough that we were able to achieve a high enough hit rate, that it made sense to do it this wa

If you're living inside the PHP world, I'd take a look at Phing ( http://www.phing.info/trac/ ). It's very similar to Apache Ant and uses a XML file to describe the build tasks (include/exclude files, copy, tar, SCP, run PHPUnit tests, et

Having taken over a project that uses CI at it's core, I've found a number of things that definitely put it in a league below frameworks that were built with PHP 5.3 in mind. * Way too much magic - everything (libraries, models, etc.) is gl

There's also a PHP port of Resque that's fully compatible with the Ruby resque web interface - https://github.com/chrisboulton/php-resque I've used it in production for a few different projects and highly recommend it (both the PHP and Ru

The biggest cost (once you get into those multi GB levels) is the weeks to months it's going to take to get everything up. That being said, I'd be very tempted to use drive to backup my photos (raw files, so sitting at 400GB or so). The pri

The biggest problem I have with CI as a specific application framework is the insistance of being extremely backwards compatible (PHP 4 support was dropped less than a year ago, and they only very recently stopped supporting 5.1). I underst

For work, no. We're heavily based around mapping tools which don't degrade well (if at all) so optimizing for the non JavaScript users makes little sense for us. Most of my personal projects also require JavaScript because they're things th

If Canon or Nikon wanted to produce a stupidly high (100MP+) megapixel full frame 35mm sensor they could. The pixel density on their compact cameras is about .3MP/square mm, a full frame 35mm sensor is 36x24mm (864 square mm), yielding a ~2
