This is a pity. I called them once 1 week before the warranty expired on a graphics card that had become glitchy. I think the people I spoke to were in SoCal, they were knowledgable, took their time, and happy to facilitate. I'll be fa

I've been travelling recently which pushed my daily step count up from ~5k to ~20k for two weeks. I packed 3 pairs of shoes but pretty quickly decided to stick with the Revolution 6. Also: soles wear out! If you walk/run more, you

I once ported a small amount of code from C to a managed language. The C code used single precision floats (24 bit significand), the target language supported only double precision (53 bit significand). There was little enough math that it

The question might be: which Macbook might your prospective usershave? For that reason I'd go with something low spec, maybe even a refurb from https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/mac . (To translate back

San Francisco code (maybe CA?) requires that office lighting be tied to motion detectors. In my experience, if you're in the only one in late, you have to dance around the room every 15 minutes unless you want to sit in darkness. At s

I'm not at this level of optimization I think you are! It's less work to keep it simple, than to make it heavy then try to pare it back.

I think the OLAP vs OLTP distinction is most interesting when you run into constraints and are forced to optimize for one at the expense of the other. Computers are so big and fast today, many applications won't hit that point.

I shipped consumer software with Qt in the 2000's. It was nicer to work in than MFC. It looked and worked great on Windows 98/2000/XP. Qt's Windows XP renderer called Windows' own uxtheme.dll to draw everything. Mac

I prefer a single larger monitor; if I get absorbed by something "to the side" and gaze at it for 15 minutes, that's a recipe for neck/back problems.

Agreed, I suspect it'd be most accurate to say the SQLite folks are minimizing their working set. I picked a couple of random performance commits out of their code repo, and they look like they might keep 1 or 2 lines out of i-cache:
