Valgrind will tell you about stuff you malloc()d but didn't free(). That's part of what their tools do, but it won't help so much with reference counted/GCed stuff. Remember there's a lot of Javascript code in the browser itself.

For similar "pulling" reasons, make sure your feet reach the ground (or a footrest) - you don't want them dangling in the air.

That's Softdisk, not Apogee. Apogee was id's publisher from when they started moonlighting until id handled their own distribution for Doom.

Web proxy farms mean you can't just say "100+ votes from a single IP address = blacklist". You'd probably need manual intervention to distinguish proxies and individual abusers. Once you're manually intervening, you may as well just wait un

MySQL and Oracle excel in different areas. I would expect Oracle to halt any effort to grow MySQL towards Oracle's feature set. I suspect this is very bad news for Postgresql. Sun is a major backer, but that will likely end. Postgresql's ta

sqlite has a page cache but its default settings are a bit weak. I suspect that what you want to do is open the sqlite database in exclusive mode (so that it grabs and holds a lock over the db, and should be able to assume that cached data

Looks like the plan was to release Episode 1 only (what the shareware Wolfenstein was) for $0.99, and Eps 1-6 for $5. I only see the $5 bundle on the app store though.

We officially support IE6, IE7, IE8, Safari3, and FF3. We're now in the ridiculous position of spending more time testing different versions of IE than we do all the other browsers. We've already pushed the IE7 compat meta tag out onto all

I'm skipping over the issue of your CEO's motives - he could hate you and want you out, but assuming he doesn't.. despite the fact we've always done what we said we would when we said we would. So you've got the commitment thing down: yo

VMWare's brands within brands within brands continue to confuse me. I'm hoping at some point this leads to a client for OS X and/or X11 that can talk to ESXi and VMWare Server. At the moment you have to manually configure each VM to expose

Google has ~65% of the search market. The other 35% is probably still representative enough for you to figure out what the population is searching for that leads to your website.

There's already a garbage collector in the Objective-C runtime for regular Mac OS X. People targeting OS X 10.5 and higher (that's anyone writing a new app) are happily using it. They've just chosen not to enable its usage on the iPhone.

If clicking the mouse is painful, try switching hands. Using your mouse other handed will feel very clumsy for a few days, and you probably won't ever want to play a game that way. But it does give your other arm a break. I switch between l
