The HPACK spec [1] remarks on this. Google carefully used DEFLATE in earlier SPDY versions [2] but HTTP/2 decided to be less clever. Interestingly, SLZ's page comments on lack of history as a way to avoid CRIME attacks, which is o

I'm prone to motion sickness on buses. Even for people who aren't, I can't imagine the joltiness of travelling in a geared vehicle that's not on tracks is more pleasant than a train.

Maybe. There are lots of finicky details, like inconsistent bit ordering and arbitrary lookup tables. I think it's a long week of work at least, probably more. On the other hand, it is probably the simplest compression format in widesp

I've implemented gzip... I found that implementing the decompressor first (with a very verbose --debug flag) was critical to understanding the bitstream well enough to implement compression :)

I'll take either a mechanical or a chiclet (like the Apple ones) keyboard over squishy rubber domes. I personally think the chiclet boards have a lot in common with the mechanical ones - there's a very nonlinear resistance and it&

A Model M was my primary keyboard for years. Now, the ~65g activation force is a bit too heavy for my liking, and I'm using Cherry Brown/Blues.

The percentages in that table (68.3% for directors and officers, and 22.0% / 5.6% / 4.9% / 13.6% for four significant investors) add up to 114.4%. I obviously don't understand what it actually represents :) Can somebody

Each company is different, I could be way off the mark, and 3 hours strikes me as a little short for the standard format. A common interview format will have you doing multiple, separate interviews, usually 60 minutes long, with different p

Fix the tax mess for employees who receive stock options. There's lots of room for people to be stuck paying tax on "income" that they're years from being able to turn into cash. If things turn south, they may end up hav

It looks like a mobile app is part of your solution. How are drivers' phones going to access your servers? I'm really speculating here, but do they want to run the service in a private IP space (inaccessible from the Internet) and

Other commenters have mentioned you should figure out why they want to do this, which is important. There could be actual, real legal requirements. There could be internal policies which are, or aren't, flexible. It could just be an

Qt is reasonably separated into modules; I've deployed stuff that only depends on QtNetwork, QtSql and QtCore and all the other stuff doesn't get linked in (it's not even in the #include search paths). (I haven't used Ch

IMO it doesn't make sense to read code like this without a copy of the H.264 spec in hand. And once you've got that spec, why paraphrase a fraction of it, poorly, in the source code? I do think that comments at the function level

Micro instances have savage CPU throttling with a little bit of leeway. What this translates into is you'll compile something biggish (eg node.js), things will seem fine for a few minutes, then the machine appears to freeze. * If you want t
