Some great points here. I went to school in Waterloo (where RIM is) and worked for 4 months in product design at Apple, so I am pretty aware of the differences between the two companies. Here are my thoughts on your points: 1) Very true. Ap

Great to see a company out of Waterloo get some well-deserved recognition. Definitely agree that it's sad to see them all get moved to MV, but such is life. We still have Kik and RIM though :) Kudos to them!

Based on the definition of the award, it's all but impossible to think of anyone who even came close to deserving it! Definition: "…celebrates journalism that challenges secrecy and mendacity in public affairs and raises ‘forgotten’ issues

Just mind-boggling. In Canada at least the advertising budget is just monstrous. Their ads are everywhere!

I agree with camiller! The technical part of the article isn't the interesting point. It's the fact that the big boys were able to join together and create something for good! Let's hope "Don't Be Evil" is infectious and no one goes after e

In the case of software, a patent doesn't promote innovation, it hampers it. Allowing a company to sit on it's laurels for 20 years because they patented something as simple as swiping left to right to unlock a screen is absurd. This isn't

While this is clearly not the most ethical behavior, how many of us wouldn't do the exact same? You gotta do what you gotta do.

Very interesting. If Apple is able to pull this off I'll be very impressed, but I can't see how the record labels will go for this.

Very fair. That's the great thing about startups, there's no magic formula. What works for one group probably won't work for the next. But I would say this, if your a business guy and you don't have much of a clue how the product works, sit

After reading the Sternberg and Tenner articles on this topic, I noticed that they forgot one major thing: it's sometimes the business guy who's the lead founder and in charge of the product direction. I'm going to be a little biased here

I'd love to know how many people in the world actually understand quantum computing with reasonable depth. My bet is less than 500. I will be the first to confess that I have no idea what they are talking about most of the time.
