Former IBEW Local 58 member here That take seems very myopic and lacks nuance. There were entire jobsites (which had multiple crews from different companies) that we couldn't work on unless we were members. That's illegal in rig

I had a similar experience in IBEW Local 58 before I left the trade to pursue a career in tech. I'm not sure why the negative experiences of those who've seen the dark side of union orgs, aren't welcome.

LinkedIn is mostly crap for finding work. Recruiters spam the bajeezus out of anyone accepting InMail and messages from recruiters based on shallow keyword matching. Tons of low quality, low pay, bad interview process gigs await you there.

In the last 15 years I've had exactly one company contact my references. I went to work for them. It's rare these days, and it's a shame.

If a process takes more than three interviews (allowing for an actually role-applicable take home) and two weeks, I bow out. Toss me some array shuffling algorithm challenge like I'm fresh out of school and I'm out as well. OP is

Not directly related, but we did the SPATCHCOCK method this year with a 33lb bird following this video [1] and it was INCREDIBLE. Brined for a day of course. If you have access to a Traeger, I highly recommend it. [1] https://www

This looks like a great little project, but fails the/my litmus test for use in a professional setting as it has zero tests. What protects this tiny component from regressions? `demo.js` doesn't seem to be sufficient.

You're presenting this as fact, but without reference, based on your own admitted foray into unhealthy supplementation. It's difficult to take this comment anything but impassioned anecdote, and not as sage advice, without referen

Common theme in open source: contributor doesn't agree with maintainer feedback, becomes petty, takes ball and goes home. Most of the time this is solved by patience and leaving ego at the door. Or forking.

Try to ignore the political aspects of this for a moment. The entire biome of the Gulf is at stake here when a single species is threatened. The Gulf might seem like it's a huge body of water on paper (and I mean, it is) but it's

My advice, coming from someone who worked for a startup that called on a Wednesday at 10AM and said they were out of money after only 6 months: Don't let it phase you. If you like startups and that kind of culture, find another.

It sounds like you're being hamstrung by a limited view. I'd encourage you to look at any number of states to the south, both for headquarters and for hiring. Michigan is a dead end, or a the most a limited end.
