I don’t think comparing a Tesla’s price to an ICE competitor is an apples to apples comparison. Sure on the surface a Model 3 price tag looks luxury, but look at full cost of ownership and things start looking downright reasonable. No manda

For engine failures turning in to fatalities, the biggest cause are stalls/spins where the pilot fails to maintain airspeed, unload the wings and stay coordinated. Flying the aircraft just above stall speed into the side of a barn is f

Honestly, I couldn't say where my line would be. I'm doing post-grad stuff and have a career that isn't majorly dependant on it, so I can afford to be more choosy I guess. But in general, a lot of students are in debt and hav

As someone who has been forced to use software like this, I'd be afraid to take measures like that lest the software flag it as tampering or evidence of cheating. My grades (or worse, my good standing with the integrity office) are hel

I don't like Backblaze because they require you to hand over your encryption key to their website to restore which kills any hope of it being a 0-knowledge solution. Right now I'm using Arq Backup + S3 and have been happy.

Usually you don't need a support contract for continued use of the software you bought. I have old versions of a few applications and am happy with their current functionality. I can choose to not have a support contract and still use

I believe for the satellites to pick you up you need ADS-B antenna diversity (an antenna on the top and bottom of the plane) which I don’t believe is very common yet because it has cost.

Blue Airways — a Romanian budget airline is on the list as a “Terror” organization. I guess their service isn’t very good.

The US Army and the FAA are two separate entities. The example in the article mentioned that a FAA facility manager might have denied escalation to use the buzzer, not the US Army.

The article makes it seem like they're testing the capability of field personnel rather than doing R&D. For the actual R&D stuff, I can see why they'd need to do something in the field to see how it behaves. But I would al

Can someone more familiar with the situation explain why they jam GPS at all? You'd think the vast industry around the military could replace actual jamming with training aids. Even if the bespoke training tools are expensive, I doubt

Over 1500 hours of continuous operation is quite a feat. Components like magnetos have service schedules much shorter than that. This also ignores all the unexpected issues that pop up in aviation. My only experience with Cessna 172s are re

Probably for the best with their history of customer support black holes and horror stories of falsely banned accounts in all their consumer products. Google is one of the last companies in the world I’d trust to hold my finances.

I agree with all your points, my comment was mostly my confusion around many articles getting upset with the name "Tesla Autopilot" which seems like an honest description of the feature. There are practical implications of having

Full Self Driving is a much less honest name that people should be legitimately upset about. But I see article after article pick on specifically the "Tesla Autopilot" name which I always found strange.

I don’t understand why so many take issue with the feature being called Tesla Autopilot. I’m a pilot and believe it is a pretty accurate name. Do regular folks think an aircraft autopilot does everything? Traditionally, it is just a system

If your goal is to learn a skill, there are better ways to go about it than gaming. The problem in learning that gaming helps with isn’t learning efficacy —- it is motivation. As a child, I simply wasn’t interested in novels and enjoying pl

I agree that playing a game might not improve a class of skills in general like coordination or problem solving, but I don’t think it requires much study to determine improvement of skills directly used. For example, to improve your reading
