csomar's response is, IMHO, the right reaction to the blog post author's rambling. What I've found out by experience is that usually recruiters with such restricting requirements aren't ready to back up said requests with the appropriate mo

I know that's true - probably not in Italy, but certainly it works better than building a great product and then trying to sell it. > if you need clients/customers, you have to find them before doing anything else. All the other stuff s

While it may certainly help to hang out in the right places, there's two reason this won't work out: 1) At least where I live (Italy), hanging out with the "right" people just isn't enough. You have to have deeper connections with somebody

Wages are very flexible around here - most of young people don't have regular contracts, and already earn less than 10k/year. With no benefits, no insurance, no 401k.

Just to give you some perspective - in Italy ,unemployment among the young part of the population is around 35% and the ones who managed to find a work are usually underpaid to a point that it's basically impossible to afford a rent, even l

I've tried Unity and I didn't like it. But that was to be expected, since I've been using xmonad for more than a year now. Power users like myself will always find a way to get their favourite system up and running. I agree with Canonical a

It's your life and you make the calls but why couldn't you just work half the time then? You'd get the same money and 12 or so days off every month. You can do plenty of interesting work during that spare time.

(I really don't want to come off as bragging, please bear with me.) I'm a programmer and I've got my reasons to believe I'm pretty good at my job. I love my job. But it's a job, and the amount of money they pay me to do that is directly pro

Just wondering: how much do they pay? I'm asking this because 1) people with the skill set they're looking for are extremely rare 2) tend to be self-employed or startuppers 3) might leave any moment if the conditions they're looking for are

I was probably mistaken, let me rephrase: it's awesome that you, as a business guy, actually took the time and had the patience to learn Rails, no matter what the results - and it will surely impress the developers you will try to hire in t

Nice attitude... but just the sentence "throw an MVP together" makes me cringe :) do yourself a favour and find yourself a good dev before you realize your code doesn't actually scale...

I think you're confusing "asshole" with "socially awkward". The real assholes are the ones who smile and ooze kindness and would backstab you for 10 bucks. Usually the "grumpy" people you're talking about are just grumpy, but good-hearted i

This has 13 points at the moment. The submission which is currently 6th place on the homepage has 12 points and is, like this one, about 1 hour old (i've submitted this after that one was already on the home). I smell censorship...

Sure I could do that... I mean, I can remap everything on linux too. But I don't need to do that because the keys do what I expect them to. That's my point.

There is... problem is, there is also another key called "command", or "apple", which most of the times does what the ctrl key does on a pc. But not always, so you have to keep switching.

Yep, also fun + backspace would do but I'd really really like to have my DEL key back. I'm used to it, I love it, it's everywhere, I don't see the point of taking that back.
