More on that first-mover advantage... The author suggests that it is not a factor in this arena as Tumblr will inevitably plateau due to a lack of new user signups. I disagree. So long as there are new users signing up for these services th

Dumping your smartphone is a major step in the right direction. No one ever takes the time to be truly present and witness the world around them with a smartphone in their hand. Immediately we default to checking Twitter, Facebook, texting,

Yes, but without a general knowledge of HTML/CSS you won't know what is possible and what isn't possible in your design. So yes, you may design some amazing layout in photoshop with crazy features and what not, but it simply may not be doab

It pains me to see a Mashable story on the front page. This post (like most Mashable pieces) is of little use to the HN community. Let's keep this sort of "lowest common denominator" stuff on Reddit and Digg.

As an avid skydiver (67 jumps) and a lover of fine documentaries, I must suggest that you watch "Fearless - The Jeb Corliss Story." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzQ7pdTfp2g&feature=PlayL... And an article worth checking out in Outsi

This article, similar to "The Web Is Dead", is about nothing more than link baiting. Wired has been going down hill as of late.

I would say that one of the biggest challenges is going to be maintaining a healthy body in a zero gravity environment. Not sure how long the longest stay at the Space Station has been, but does it even come close to 500 days?

Very true. Unlike the 99% of other economics majors on this campus, I thoroughly enjoy the subject. I know what I want to do after I graduate. I'm moving out to San Francisco. Do you have similar plans? I'll be back on campus next Saturday

My thoughts exactly. A degree is nothing more than a signal of your intelligence. How else to show potential employers that you are in fact smart? If money is the real issue, then transfer to a State school. Enjoy your time in college, it o

In my opinion, an "Entrepreneurship" major is a complete waste of time. Entrepreneurship is something that is learned through trial and error. Right now I am on an Economics/Legal Studies track. Originally I was doing Finance, thinking that

Look at it from a start-up perspective, either you bootstrap with $0 invested or you raise money (more than $10k). The same project can be had with no money or a lot of money. Once you burn through $10k you will only want more money.
