Could be. But any particular interest is def not true (windows programming), so more like some niche interest. But this is the definition of niche interest, isnt it.

I think a few hundred programmers in the 90s is underestimating the numbers by a factor of at least 1000 and (probably much much) more. Of course such numbers are difficult to estimate, but here some pointers: It was introduced in school i

Maybe you havent worked for a company which changes your priorities and then doesnt want to pay the performance bonus because the original (written down) goal was not met?

You can also use goals as a shield. Since the company agreed it is high priority other work should not interfere with it. Of course if you manager thinks otherwise one can mutually change the list (which ppl only will do if the new thing is

Try for a while the other advises, but also consider switching careers. Companies who pay for security are sometime paranoid and might not like a background like this. What about looking for entry level software development.

Where is having somebody repairing your clothing cheap? Mending a pair of jeans here costs almost as much as a new pair.

I think what is important is once to have seen couple of times the happy path (successful project) and at least the unhappy path (unsuccessful project) and see how a senior can mitigate the repercussion of the unsuccessful project. Basical

Exactly. So obviously the code base is an asset. If one then want to define technical debt it is more like the difference of the value of the code base compared to the imagined/perceived value of the code base. But this does not help w

It is not the same. Financial debt has to be on the balance sheet; technical debt is not. My point is the a finance/business guy will think in the totally wrong direction with what you actually mean. Also to whom do you repay technical
