Yeah, companies really seem to like pissing away their users money on AWS. And then people wonder why everything is an expensive subscription now and somehow Amazon keeps getting richer...

> But then there is the question of cost on AWS side. Use Cloudflare R2 for storage, public bucket for delivery, and a $10/month Hetzner server to run conversions. You don't have to take your users' money just to burn it o

Why are you persistently storing copies of user passports? This is a data breach waiting to happen. Surely these should only be kept until whatever verification you wanted to do is complete, and then deleted forever?

Yeah, it's absurd. Current market pricing is more like $4.50 for hourly on-demand and around $2 for long term reservations.

I started about 10 years ago with modding games. C++ is what everyone used (and mostly still uses) to write mods/cheats, dll injections, and so on. There were some shared online that I used as reference to learn how it was done. Lookin

It doesn't force it, but it is much more fun to use once you understand the fundamentals, since you can still write code where it makes a difference.

I'm currently in Germany working remotely for a US company as you described. They pay around 200k pre tax. There are real growth options from there. I've never seen a single competing offer from a German company, not even at the h

Lol, $1 billion. That's less than Meta spent on GPUs for fun for Zuck's pet project. Needs to be 100 times higher to be useful.

Someone who blackmails 33,000 people should receive 33,000 consecutive sentences for blackmail. Why even consider to let someone who uses technology to amplify how much damage they can do to society to such an extent, back out?

It's not just "kind of insane", it's completely bananas. Like what the actual fuck? We really need some kind of regulation to ban predatory cloud pricing.

Does the trapped light take up space, or can we use this to accumulate large amounts of energy like some kind of crystal-based battery?

Modules are a massively over engineered "solution" to the problem that require significant refactoring to actually make use of them. Have you tried to properly use modules (i.e. create ones in your software, not just import std)?

It's frustrating to see the C++ committee spend year after year on pointless new over engineered libraries instead of finally fixing the compile times. On a high level view, with only one change to the language, we could entirely elimi

This is standard Google behavior. Logging into Google on any new device always asks me to confirm it on one of the other devices that are logged in (i.e. phones, tablets). Suppose it's some kind of 2FA.

It's a catch 22 - you can't deploy Rust so no one uses Rust for anything, no one uses Rust for anything so there is no reason for Sony to work on Rust deployment. I think it would be a really good fit for certain parts of the engi

On the project I'm currently working on, we use filters to disable syncing groups of art assets we don't need, so a checkout for an engineer is usually quite reasonable. Probably also around 400GB though it includes the engine. Wi
