It means that you attack their beliefs, not the person themself. Or you publicize their views and say that you disagree with them. In this case there are some people doing just that, which is fine. However IMO trying to launch a boycott aga

I agree with you, and incidentally so does Gerald Sussman (co-inventor of Scheme). He helped write an entire book on Lagrangian mechanics that uses Scheme because he believes the math notation is too fuzzy and confusing for people. https:&

To expand on that, I think a lot of people confuse the Free Software movement with a movement for "ideological purity". No, it isn't about having the most social justice points, it's about creating and sharing free softw

Has anyone ever bothered to ask Tony Hoare what he thinks on this topic? I know SPJ and him both work for MS Research, maybe he can get on that and settle this for us.

I'm sorry you're only now realizing that just having a bunch of credentials doesn't mean you're a genius. It just means you took the time to study a few specific things in-depth. Sadly there is no way around actually tak

In the hypothetical scenario that Mozilla management decides to start discriminating against gay people I think we can count on the support of many of the people who are familiar with the codebase. Would you agree?

Even if Mozilla started actively discriminating against people and campaigning against minority rights I would have no problem taking the code and starting a forked version. IMO that's what's so great about FLOSS, if you disagree

You do realize what free software is right? You're not giving him money by using Firefox, and you're completely free to use a forked version of it like Iceweasel if you don't want it to be counted as an install or whatever.
