Part of the reason why functional languages like Scheme have anonymous functions (lambdas) is so that you can encode various language features in them. function definition: (define (f x) (+ x x)) => (define f (lambda (x) (+ x x))) vari

Just based on a glance of the documentation, you can permanently delete emails using this, I don't think you can do that with the IMAP interface for gmail, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I can think of some reasons you might not want to build it on Racket. I think Racket is fantastic, but if you are developing some novel variety of Scheme or whatever then you might want to have control over "low level" (I'm s

You could do closure conversion, but then you run into problems with the lifetimes of things, oh and then you're basically reimplementing lisp.

You could probably extend Racket's pattern matching to do the same stuff. It can already match against structurs you define yourself, but I don't think it can do things like "match anything with this pattern in this recursive

Well HHVM is a JIT compiler isn't it? Also it applies just as well to an intermediate representation (like bytecode, or some simpler language that gets evaluated).

Statically typed usually means the compiler checks types during compilation and throws away information about them after generating the target code (usually, there are exceptions like Java). So I doubt it will be able to tell you anything a

Well Lisp itself is a Stanford invention. Scheme is an MIT invention. I agree that Scheme deserves a mention though, even though it isn't widely popular, it certainly transformed how people thought about education and things like garba

It annoys me when people try to argue that (0.99...) != 1 because "infinity goes on forever, it's not a number!" though, without understanding the difference between a representation of a number and the number itself.
