You could leave an appropriate tip with a message for management.

I think JadeNB said it better than I can here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35315551 Theoretically this may be true, but it's not how it will play out in practice. A few people will not tip in protest, the staf

Why not just leave the comment, and tip the waitstaff an appropriate amount?

Well then presumably you never tip, anywhere. Which is certainly your right, but breaks social mores. Tipping is a terrible system, but it's the system we have. Individuals choosing not to tip is highly unlikely to result in systemic c

Do you expect this to actually work? In practice, a small amount of people will not tip in protest, leading to the employees to make less money, and management will not care.

In practice, there is no way that waitstaff turnover will actually influence what management choses as the tipping presets on the POS system.

In the real world, there is not a free market mechanism by which waitstaff will change jobs because of the tip presets management have chosen for their POS system.

If you're offended by 30% being an option for tips, why not just speak to management directly, and leave what you feel is an appropriate tip to the waiter? I wish tipping did not exist, but as long as it does, it's not an appropri

"The core" in this case does not benefit from the waitstaff gaining nor losing tips. Also, it's just a matter of empathy.

I don't think you should punish the waitstaff for how the management has set up the tipping screen.

You're speaking vaguely enough that it's not clear what you're referring to. I didn't see any very personal information.

It's not immediately obvious to me – why would escape velocity also be the minimum speed at which an object could enter the atmosphere?

Worth noting that macOS has a “low data mode” which solves several of these issues. Apps can hook into it also. https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/449668/what-is-low...

A telescope isn't a remote viewing device, it's photons hitting my eyes just the same as if I were standing directly in front of whatever I'm observing. I'm not trying to do some new-agey "everything is valid"

There are no consistent interpretations! The photon you're seeing that came from 671 million miles travelled to your eye instantly, from its "perspective."
