My daily driver is from 2014. Each time I spec up a new PC in line with what I want for data workloads, some spatial, and probably the odd bit of video work, I'm reminded just how expensive hardware has become.

These will be sold for parts, not whole units. Their location was likely heading out of country soon after they were stolen. They will be broken down, parted, and dispensed with before any authorities can act.

There's been a few writers where stolen phones have been tracked back to China where they are stripped into parts, with those parts then being sold on the grey market. Most of the parts are not locked to the device, with a few exceptio

I've been using it to help write python for some scientific calcs which I know that nobody else should be using on stack or github. Certainly not in the way I'm implementing them. Copilot is fantastic at predicting where I'm

Didn’t the Chinese successfully test a SODAMJET at the end of 2020 that enables flight of Mach 16 at some extreme altitudes, and requires little fuel as well?

By equal measure, who'd have thought the assassination of an Archduke and Duchess of two reasonably low priority places by a Bosnian student would have even been front page news. What precipitates from these issues isn't always cl

Have you noticed any improvements with GPT-4 regarding the continuity and persistence if story and assets? In unrelated areas that feel similar I've noticed GPT-4 keeping track a lot better.

AWS has a large learning curve, for sure. I've been using it now for several years as an admin for some scientific applications that present web frontends to customers. A few notes: - for personal or small stuff I'd recommend Ligh

Ha ing been down a similar path, this whole thing works so much better if you don't 'import arcpy'. Licencing issues aside, you've often got faster tools in shapely, fiona, geopandas, rasterio, xarray.

Well, I stand corrected! I was looking through the mobile site and didn't spot it. This makes me want to look a bit harder. When self hosting, do you gain or miss out on paid features?

EDIT: My following statement about self hosting is incorrect. You can, infact, self host. This looks wonderful, but the inability to self host is a killer from the solo developer point of view. Being limited to 50,000 database rows on the f

If I have a larger say in regarding our next machine it will be something like that speed queen. Whatever the medium commercial units are. Easy to service and replace parts. Few sensors. A dirty water pump that can move hair and solids.

In the vast majority of cases you cannot turn a PDF into spatial data, except for georeferencing it as an image. There are some exceptions, such as when the PDF already includes georeferenced vector data, but its very unlikely you had that
