I would reply that the adults in that case should demonstrate their own character by recognizing that teenagers are humans with emotions¹ who get frustrated and make mistakes. And that a mistake that doesn't really harm anyone (an F sa

Strongly disagreeing. Which of us has not privately cursed their job at some point in frustration? The consequences for letting fly some profanity privately as an expression of human emotion cannot be so high in any reasonable civilizatio

It's been pointed out numerous times elsewhere in the threads, but long-haul routes are short-haul routes, for people in the middle. Very few people drive I-80 from end to end. Lots of people drive it for trips like Iowa City to Omah

I am a big proponent of walking to get around, but 6 miles in 80 minutes is closer to a jog than "a comfortable walking pace". Typical walking speed is 16-20 minutes/mile, and that's without carrying anything.

I want to corroborate this. I have ridden between NYC, Boston, and Chicago dozens of times, a very nice trip. Heading west, we generally to Albany-Renssalear on time, make the connection, and proceed on time. Even in winter snow. The number

This is feasible if your program is the only one ever reading (let alone writing) the data. When you add a separate frontend and stringly-typed back-and-forth communication (JSON), it becomes a huge headache for whichever platform(s) are no

This doesn't seem to be a different problem in kind than teaching people to write programs. How do we do that other than teaching them some mechanics (syntax, how to run the compiler) and then setting them a lot of exercises to gain

This is something that Gerrit is really good at. The model is a little weird, because it tracks all pushes to a code review essentially as separate commits. But it makes the workflow really really easy for reviewers: you can diff any two ve

I have completely the opposite experience; brew would screw something up every other time I upgraded a package, and didn't cross OS updates very well at all. MacPorts has been rock-solid, possibly because it is more careful about makin
