Normally no, from what I have read they are very reliable. And the sensors are the same ones used on all 737s. So it seems that there is some other problem with the MAX that is leading to the a false "nose high" indication.

Random strangers tend to abuse specific individuals. Governments tend to abuse classes of people. So I'll take the former, if those are my two options.

Don't see how that's a lot better. As long as the database exists, it has potential for abuse later. No reason to think the courts are more ethical than the police.

Methane is in the atmosphere of many planets and moons. I think I recall reading that on Titan it rains liquid methane. Why is methane on Mars any more remarkable than it is elsewhere? Methane is an extremely simple molecule of carbon and h

I'm not blaming no one else. The MCAS implementation was clearly flawed, being vulnerable to a single point of failure in the AoA data (and by the way, that's where the real problem lies. Why is the MAX AoA system failing more tha

I prefer buying from individual websites. I've never had a problem doing that. Buying on Amazon, I've gotten misrepresented items several times.

They had training on runaway trim. All they needed to do was follow the memory items.

And the pilots mismanaged it.

Read mhandley's post upthread. It explains what MCAS does: it addresses a certification requirement for handling control forces at high angles of attack.

Wrong, the flight preceeding the Lion Air crash had the same issue, and the pilots managed it, by switching off the stab trim system as per the runaway trim checklist.

All jet airliners with engines under the wings have an "off-center-of-gravity" thrust. They all want to pitch up when thrust is applied. The MAX, with the engines higher and more forward, actually has less of an issue with this. T

Not that I condone the wireless companies selling this kind of data, but if you're in a situation where a bounty hunter is after you, step one is don't carry a mobile phone.

Yes, I was a kid in the 1970s and the anti-littering campaign was pervasive. I was too young to remember/notice the litter itself, but definitely remember the "Crying Indian" commercial, Woodsy Owl[1], and others. You always

Agree. I lean conservative and generally feel that the market will find the best solutions. If solar is economically superior to coal then it will replace coal. We don't need government policies and tax incentives to make that happen.

A lot of custom business software for the IBM PC was written in BASIC and it worked very well. I helped a restaurant that had their inventory, crew scheduling, payroll, and accounting all written in BASIC. Ran on a PC AT in the back office.

None. That's the point. Just because something is cleaner does not make it practical. Passenger rail isn't happening in the USA. It would take huge investment, and flying would always win on route flexibility. Once you build a rai
