I like that idea. Trying a slightly different approach, and searched on indeed.com for "mathematics" and "$50,000" (filters for jobs that are supposedly 50K USD and up per year). Jobs on the first page: - Mathematician

I'd stop going to work if they stopped paying me. Every unit of comp I am paid (and don't spend) now is 1+ units of comp I don't need to earn later. All other things being equal, getting paid more is frikkin' awesome.

I pay $1550 for a small studio in SF. My neighbor pays less than $300 for his apartment, which is the same size as mine. I've lived there since 2016, he has lived there since 1985-ish.

One thing to keep in mind here is that companies often use recruiters to fill their more difficult roles. If 25% of positions are filled by recruiters, these offers could be closer to the top 25% of salaries, too.

+1 vote for Heroku. Re: spending a little money, Scaleway has some the cheapest servers I've seen & would consider using. 2.99 Euros (3.54 USD as of now) for a server w/ 2GB of RAM & 50GB of storage is a pretty solid deal
