Beautiful article. I've loved reading the author's writing for over a decade now and this one lives up to his previous writings. This sentence, in particular, caught my eye: >Hospitals are one of the very few places left where

Just a comment on branding. I worked for RealNetworks a long, long time ago and I remember when we came out with RealPlayer One in 2002. This was an effort to bring a bunch of products together in the face of competition from MS and others.

I'm a Stanford business school grad and harbour no fanatical love for it. I penned a public letter to my Dean [1] five years ago suggesting changes to a curriculum I saw as myopic. But this article strikes me as a diatribe against capi

You are correct that all sources have bias. It's difficult for readers to check every article for this and gauge their credibility. So my startup, CivikOwl, built a Chrome extension that makes it easy to check the quality of citations

While this is generally a positive step by Google it will fall short in revitalizing the news industry for a simple reason. In a world of near infinite content options, most people can no longer justify having any single news subscription.

I use two Intuit products at my startup: Online Payroll because my BofA account easily integrates with it and Quickbooks to manage the books (because my accountant suggested it). Both products are easy to use. Online Payroll looks like a &#

Without much more data I'd say: 1. I once thought the same of an idea I had. When I finally launched it failed. So no one cared to clone it! 2. I have another idea I now think has merit. I've proven some traction with users. Enoug

Just read this article. Very cool how the researchers simulated the role luck plays in society with some neat models. The conclusions they reach are fascinating and counter-intuitive e.g. >"[I]f the goal is to reward the most talent

Any idea why Fred is not a believer in subscriptions? My hypothesis is subscriptions, for news at least, are all-or-nothing propositions. But in a world where there's so much content, much of it for free, we will only want to bypass a

Excellent question. The 3 periodicals I mention above represent a more classical conservative viewpoint, i.e. Paul Ryan rather than Trump. But those two overlap at times so the distinction isn't clear. What I like is that these sites h
