The only HN April Fool's joke I know of: http://news.ycombinator.net/item?id=152361 PG coordinated with Nickb to insinuate that Nickb was PG. Nickb is the site's top user by points. His real-life identity is somewhat mysterious.

No. One of the first rules I ever learned about human factors was to translate "user error" into "design flaw." A mistake that is easy to make is a design problem. In this case, this easy-to-make mistake benefits Google. It's probably not i

These guys already make money doing exactly that. This is a new service from a well-established small company.

Well, Idée is an established business that already does the IP search service. This is a new service, but not necessarily for the same purpose.

"Good people find good markets." Such an important point, and one with few resources for learning about.

Here's the about page: http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~ad/academic-hacker-news.html You can see it by clicking on the (empty for now) favicon. I'll add a more obvious link.

Well, it's up, we'll see where it goes. I don't actually know anything about building communities. Basically the plan is to keep an open mind and keep learning.

I think it will be a slower site than HN because it takes longer to read full papers than articles.
